 RomanticLover1 chapter 15 . 11/23/2017 I did enjoy this story, as I did enjoy 'It's a Man's Man's World'. However, I must say your grammar and punctuation are terrible. This was more so during dialogue than description. Firstly, stick to one tense, either past or present. Often you changed between the two, even in one sentence. Secondly, when using double quotation marks ("_"), a comma must go at the end of the sentence in the quotation marks if you say (for example) 'she said' at the end ("_," she said). If nothing comes after, always place a full stop ("_."). The latter especially rarely happened in your story. Thirdly, apart from situations when the 'she said' comes at the start of the quote, there should always be a full stop before the quote if it follows on from another sentence (. "_"), never a comma. This is because the description should end before starting the quote. An example from Chapter 10 is: 'I looked away into the candles, "I-" I swallowed,'; this does continue on with a similar problem, however, what this should actually look like is: 'I looked away into the candles. "I-" I swallowed.' As you can see, I have replaced two commas with full stops, which fixes the punctuation problem. Improving punctuation improves clarity in reading as sentences and there meaning can get confused. |
