Reviews for In the Shadow of the Beasts
Technicalman chapter 9 . 2/9
And I'd also add on that some ''two-bit hack Hollywood screenwriter'' can search up easily many of the fan theories as to why the forbidden lands are abandoned and I'm sure your reason is one of the many fan theories. or perhaps it is original same with why mono was killed. i have my own theory which i quite like. i didn't make it but i wholeheartedly like it either way.
Technicalman chapter 10 . 2/9
Mate i wish there was a movie planed for Shadow of the colossus but it is extremely unlikely and even more unlikely for it to be copied from here lol who do you think you are kidding?
Other than that I'll be here again to either state you were correct on sonic or wrong on sonic.
Gamma Cavy chapter 10 . 7/19/2019
I may not like your reasoning for dropping the story from here, but at least I understand it. Thank you for explaining, and the assurance that you at least do know what you'd intended.
kskandury chapter 1 . 10/30/2018
Gee! What a way to end the first chapter! You are far better at writing than I am because the level of detail your giving expressions and emotion is mindblowing! The fact that you make it clear what Wander is fighting for in the first chapter yet reveal enough mystery to keep reading wonderfully excises all of the introductory BS most stories have (like mine, heh). This chapter strikes the perfect balance between knowing enough to want to know more and not knowing enough to keep searching (in terms of the reader's perspective) I'm glad you have nine chapters out already because I'll be reading and reviewing all week!
BraviaryScout chapter 9 . 10/30/2018
Honestly, this is a good chapter even to the end. Yeah the fight was short, but from what I've heard of walkthrough plays; it is one of the ones that can be ended rather quickly. Simply flip this guy on his back, stab belly and rinse/repeat again.

When you do go over this one, I'd add something to Wander's fatigue and maybe suffering a minor injury or scrape as he's scrambling down to stab the beast on its belly.
Other than that, this was solid work.

Another great chapter. That battle was intense, and very enjoyable, despite me really disliking that battle in the actual game (yes, I started playing them).

Then the backstory scene was even more amazing, giving Mono the harsh backstory, and making that anger and dislike of Wander's behavior far more personal motivating factor. Plus, her becoming vulnerable around Wander is really a show of character development done right.

I can't wait till next chapter.

Well, I wish I had been reading this more regularly, but either way, I’m enjoying this a great deal.

The scenes are well-organized, and I can tell that you’ve gone through hell to get most of the information.

Now, I do kind of feel like your fight scenes are a bit repetitive, but that’s more a fault with the game than with your writing. I mean: Find Colossus, Locate Sigil, Dangerous Climb, Stab Sigil, Soaked in Oil-Blood, Return to the Temple.
BraviaryScout chapter 6 . 2/21/2018
I've watched a LP of the remastered game all the way up to Colossus #8 and I have to say that so far, this is my personal favorite one. (Coming from someone who's never played the game)

The music, the suspense and it seemed like a bigger challenge over the previous four since you'd have to get it to swoop back down in order to make the way back to the sigils.

From what I gauged, this particular one seemed to be much more docile than the others. It didn't attack on sight and simply reacted when threatened. When I saw it die on the walkthrough, I bad for it...like it did nothing to us yet we swam to a lake, climbed on its back and stabbed the unfortunate thing to death. It didn't deserve that at all.
Anyway, cool chapter man.

A person chapter 5 . 11/10/2017
Uh, you said into twice when you were saying that he plunged the ancient sword into the beast's neck.

Also, saying 'these must play a part somehow' just makes it feel video game-y, because these colossi in-universe are not meant to be defeated, and so there wouldn't be something present meant to play a part in bringing them down and overall I'm pretty sure that isn't the vibe you're going for.
oRpheusB20 chapter 4 . 2/25/2017
Morning! Do you remember me? Probably don't, that was a while ago. Anyway, I'm still here. Just because you occasionally have some issues does not mean you can't write. (Also, just a random note, when you switched from Markus and Emon to Mono asking a question, I was a little thrown off because there was no indication that it was changing, so... I don't know, put in a line break or something. Or at least try next time to make it a little more obvious that you're jumping from one set of characters to the next.)

Anyway, so... I wasn't aware that SotC may or may not get a movie, and honestly, I'm not too surprised. What I am surprised by is that it took as long as it did for anyone to come to the conclusion that it was a good idea. But really? What do you expect? In my mind, the only other game that would be more inappropriate for a movie that has a likely chance of getting picked up out of sheer popularity would be Dark Souls, and that wouldn't work either because everything interesting is in the item descriptions, and you don't have a full world without that, but only the real nuts bother wading through more than a quarter of that mess before giving up.

And this may seem weird, but when I read about that rant on movie adaptations, my mind went to the Guardians of Ga'hoole movie. Yes, it's weird, shut up, let me explain. There were better contestants for an animal based book series that could be turned into a movie, the one immediately springing to mind being the Warriors cat series. But what got made? The lesser known series on owls that I had the likely chance of missing out on during my early childhood and thus would be entirely unenthused when the movie came out. It's not like it's probably going to get a sequel anyway, so they really should have just gone for the more popular series. Same thing with SotC. You would expect them to go for a more guaranteed game, but people are weird, man.

And why do you seem surprised by the very concept of a Minecraft movie? Sure, they're a bit late, like with the Angry Birds movie, but it's really not that shocking, and you really should just learn how to sigh and let it go. It's popular, therefore it's going to get made. It's practically a given by now.
blackout2010 chapter 4 . 2/24/2017
On the idea of SotC movie. To be honest, it could spawn a two-part movie if it's down well. Think about it: The first movie could be about how Wander, Mono and Emon met interacted and the dynamics, expanding the backstory of what started the journey (Mono's cursed fate and how it was cursed and how she 'died'), the movie could showcase what Wander did (presumably a Templar/nomad of some kind) and the movie ends with Wander having heard the story and reached the forbidden valley and making the deal, standing in the shadow of the colossus.

Then part 2 could begin, a few days/weeks later with wander having slain several of the colossus, and him setting out to slay the last, but we learn of Emon's approach. The movie can detail a few of the prior battles as Wander makes his way to Malius, which after fighting and killing the colossus brings about the climax, with Emon and Wander back in the grand hall. Of course how it ends from their is dependent.

Option 1: They keep the original ending, wander gets reincarnated after getting sucked into the portal of light (and being killed and turned into a colossus)

Option 2: They make a romantic ending with wander getting the girl and being freed from the curse (this would probably paint Emon as the bad guy)
or
Option 3 (my personal favorite): Wander and Emon don't fight, due to Mono awakening. Wander and Emon come to the agreement to put things to rest. Wander returns the sword and vows to stay in the valley due to his taint, while Emon allows them to live knowing what they've gone through and confident knowing, no one will ever return to the cursed land. Movie ends with Emon destroying the bridge and wander and mono looking forward to their new life together.

Granted, I think they are going to botch the movie and streamline it, but a man can dream.
Nintendoman01 chapter 4 . 2/24/2017
Well, I can definitely see what a psycho Wander is/was. That poor rabbit.

All in all, good chapter.
