Well...you and/or Naruto are going to get hate from the readers about Asuma. Good luck with that.

Shikamaru is showing a lot of Sasuke style character flaws here.
For starters, let's assume that Naruto were to ask the following. "I delayed as long as I could but when it came down to it I had to fight to stay alive. What was I supposed to do? Let them kill me just because someone else had dibs to killing them? Would you have done any different if our roles were reversed?" Since Shikamaru is ignoring logic in favor or raw emotion right now he'd very likely give an answer that amounts to him saying that it's okay for him to survive but not Naruto, meaning that despite years of friendship and comradeship, Shikamaru at the end of the day believes his life is worth more than Naruto's is.
Second, if Shikamaru really wanted Hidan and Kukazu dead so Asuma could be avenged then for the most part he shouldn't really care who killed them. But instead he's acting more like Sasuke would if he found out someone beat him to killing Itachi. Sure it's not fun finding out someone beat you to your goal, but with Sasuke it's pretty clear that he feels that unless he personally is the one to kill Itachi then Itachi's death means nothing. Here Shikamaru seems to be the same regarding the Akatsuki, unless he is the one to kill Hidan or Kukazu then somehow Asuma isn't avenged. Maybe it makes more sense to them, but to me it comes across as this being less about honor and more about Shikamaru just wanting to prove a point, much like how Sasuke's need to kill Itachi is also about proving his superiority over his brother. Not just avenging his clan.
For the others, it sounds like most of them feel guilty over their neglect of Naruto but they don't want to feel guilty over it. And rather than make it up to him they'd rather tell themselves they have nothing to apologize for in the first place, and if anything he should apologize to them.
With all this going on, I suspect Naruto is going to do something quite drastic in the future.
