Yeah, wow, I think you hit on something very likely. Of course he's terrified. And it would make for some great writing, great viewing.

I like your story. It's realistic that he can't sleep, that he fears that something will happen to her, that he will be alone again and someone he loves will be taken from him again. That's why "she looks at him, almost amused" stings - I know she doesn't mean it in a bad way, but well.
And I have to disagree - she did not really give him opportunities to talk. Yeah, she thought she did, but did she really expect him to speak about his feelings with her boyfriend around the corner? In 6x19, Pike was right behind them, in sight. In 6x20, he was in the house. In 6x21, they were at work. And then she was a coward and didn't tell him she was leaving. I understand why she couldn't, but it wasn't fair to Jane. Both share the blame on this situation, both hurt the other. Just glad it's over and they are together.
And I'm sure Jane will learn to sleep soon, maybe with help from Lisbon ;)

This is very good. And very true. When you live in a state of anxiety and fear for a long time, it doesn't just go away like flipping a switch. Excellent insight. Thank you for the story!

Gah, that examination of his saying" That's lucky" was absolutely my favourite part. Because I knew all of that, but just reading it from his perspective was a feels overload. But, yeah, I just really loved this, and seeing Jane brave the fear that kept him at arm's length for a long time, and how it isn't easy, but he's trying for the one's he loves that are still around because that's what they all need.

I really loved this! I think you're spot on, you can't just shake fear off in a day, it would make sense that he's both overjoyed and terrified at the same time.

I think this maybe worth a follow up.

I think you are right, and that Jane's protective urges might be a problem next season on the show. I hope so - it would be interesting to explore. I enjoyed your take on it very much!
