Reviews for To Selfishly Crave a Speck of Joy
LovelyToMeetYou chapter 1 . 5/9/2017
Wow, this story was wonderful! Honesty, it's a pairing I've never tried but Libra has always been one of my favorite characters. I must say, I love how you created a little backstory for him, how you worked with Chrom and Robin's relationship and dealt with very realistic portrayals of what was considered permissible at the time. Thank you for showing parallels between Robin and Libra I never noticed as well. It felt rewarding when they were finally free, even if momentarily. I now ship them. Thank you for writing this!
Preble chapter 1 . 12/26/2016
Such compelling and immersive writing, and for such an underdeveloped character. Fabulous, can't wait to read the rest of your stories!
robotortoise chapter 1 . 4/14/2016
This was fantastic! I don't really have any comments, but I want you to know that this story really gripped me. You're an excellent writer.
RubyGloom7 chapter 1 . 6/18/2015
That was wonderful to read. I enjoyed every word, and every thought that they provoked. I love the voice you give Libra here.
oh my god chapter 1 . 3/29/2015
Literally just sent this to a friend because I love it so much. The prose, the detail, holy crap, I could almost feel that hunger of selfishness he was feeling! I love this so oooooooo much.
DoomKnight1of24 chapter 1 . 3/26/2015
Your interpretation of Robin's character was interesting. In the game, they come of as more... passive, maybe? I just get the feeling that they're a lot more insecure, with them having no memory, and that they generally display a whole lot more self-doubt. That can be interesting in a character, true, but it never really hooked me.
Instead, I prefer how you portrayed 'your' Robin, as a more strong character, more hungry for live than wondering what to do with it.
Another thing I should mention that stayed with your portrayal of Chrom. I think the dynamics surrounding him are very interesting, seeing as I personal interpretation of him would see him marrying the woman he loves despite the rules, and then make shit up (just like he does in the game. Seriously, am I the only one who remembers Donnel's recruitment mission? He basically coerced this little farmers boy to go fight these bandits which they had every reason to assume were actually trained Plegian guerilla fighters. And he made it sound like he thought that was a good idea, too. That man would have found some justification for marrying a commoner, take my word for it.) Seeing him from this side was interesting.
Lastly, and this criticism is going to sound stupid, I kinda missed in Libra those character traits that I liked most about him in the game, i.e. his otherworldly... 'unfazedness' might be what I'm looking for (that's not a real word but shut up). By his own admission, he is 'beyond fear', and when traveling to Plegia to stop Emmeryn's execution, he started out surrounded by his faithful brothers, only to see them slaughtered by the Grimleal and not stopping for even a moment.
Don't get me wrong, humanizing him made probably for a way more satisfying love story, but I wouldn't have minded seeing a deeper exploration into how a man so kind and patient and yet so incredibly cold could fall in love.
But those are just my own thoughts.
Immortal Will chapter 1 . 3/5/2015
Completely beautiful! Reading this made me like I was under a spell. The whole story was filled to bursting with love and longing and bitterness and relief. Your descriptions are vivid and beautifully worded and the characters' emotions all felt so strong and alive.
Nonny chapter 1 . 1/3/2015
So well-written 3 fe:a is my life
TrigramCyborg chapter 1 . 8/29/2014
This was absolutely beautiful.
I wish I could say more about it, but it's left me at a loss for words.
A Shadow's Lament chapter 1 . 7/12/2014
Holy smoke. That was one heck of a read. As others have mentioned, Libra is severely ignored, and admittedly, I too, push him into that collection of characters left unused. Reading this actually makes me regret my mechanistic view to pick and chose characters as I please. Libra felt REAL. I could feel that desire, selfish however it may, and that guilt for wanting to just indulge. You captivated him so well in that he simply wishes to claim something as his without fear of judgement or sin, but is hold back by his own morality - no doubt instilled by Sister Myora.

Also, I adored the touches of Robin and Chrom. Myself, being on the bandwagon, was thrilled to see their involvement. But I was not at all surprised to see the aspect of realism. Yes, Libra. What a bastard indeed. Still, I love how what they had still lingers and how Robin tempers it into amusement - selfish perhaps, to see joy in another's pain? And Chrom becomes resentful - selfish in that he longs for what he cannot have.

You encapsulated the theme of selfishness wonderfully and I am in awe to have stumbled across something as beautifully captivating and potent as this. My only critique is of the ending - it felt abrupt and - compared to the flow of all other segments - misplaced. However, that does not take away from this masterpiece. Thank you dearly for writing. (And apologies for giving an essay of a review!) Best wishes.
RedHairedJenna chapter 1 . 7/2/2014
Libra is still one of my favorite characters, never understood why people think him dull...My Robin married him twice.
Really good story, well written! And Chrom really is a bastard if he didn't even tell her himself. Coward.
Your Robin and Libra deserve to be selfish. I'd love to see people noticing her bruises, the reactions would definitly be interesting.
Gunlord500 chapter 1 . 6/28/2014
Very good exploration of Libra's character here. I definitely liked this piece.
WinterVines chapter 1 . 6/25/2014
I very much enjoyed this. I feel Libra is one of those characters that gets ignored a lot, but you made him very real. He was a person. I can imagine this happening to him. Robin, too, felt like a realistic person. She's a bit of a forward thinker, but not so much in that she doesn't have faults. Running and wishing to be selfish sometimes instead of the cog that keeps the army running is very believable.

Their relationship was too. It was stretched out and rushed when the situation called for it. I very much like the light you cast these characters in. Interested in seeing expansion on that memory too-I've always wondered what exactly happened before the amnesia and an exploration of the different cultures (since Robin's not technically Yllissen) would be great. Nice work.

Hello.

I've always had a soft spot for Libra, so thank you for writing a fic on him! He never has enough. ):

I think that your story brought up an interesting dimension that I've never thought about, so it was refreshing. Thank you for that.

Looking forward to seeing more of you work!
