So given that there haven't been any updates on this for nearly six years, is it safe to assume that this story is dead?

This story still holds my interest on what could possibly happen as it is rather still open-ended on any number of paths it can take. (Gotta say, the mention of the doll in the research department was a particularly nice touch.)
As the characters are being developed right now, I hope that it is being kept in the back of the mind that the Rookie 9 are currently working on the memory of Naruto back in the Academy, as he was never there during the Chunin Exams where some of his actions change their perception of him. (This almost makes everyone's opinion/thoughts on Naruto strange as Naruto had no respect during the time of the exams from the other teams, only being remembered as the easy-to-deal-with dead-last in canon but, then, fanfiction prerogative.) Also, as Naruto didn't change his outlook, there's nothing to say Gaara's character has changed much aside from Shukaku no longer being the one pushing him further into that bloodthirsty mindset.
Right now, the only thing that kind of bothers me is the OC character Sekai but it shouldn't bother me too much if he keeps more to a character than helps to pull the plot along on the Gensokyo end and not a main fighting force type of character (but then, that's more a personal preference).
I look forward to this story being fleshed out whenever the next update should happen.

Well, it is somewhat interesting. Just try and keep Naruto at his somewhat normal self. Try not to fall to vices of super powers and such (at least within the range of the Touhou Project universe). But, it is going to be hard to balance a Naruto character under the Touhou profile. You're doing well, but keep him human still despite being a yokai now.

I know it's not an "official sequel", but a split from an omake from the official source. It's great and everything. Take your time. Those that are trashing you, don't pay attention to those reviewers; they may have never heard of Touhou and don't know the concept of bullet hell. Take the time to write proper and well without falling off the course.

What happens to Akatsuki? How affected is Konoha after Naruto and Kurama "vanished"? How did Ayame and Teuchi handle Naruto being gone? And did Konoha believe they were "wrong" regarding Alice Margatroid?
