Yeah, it is a wonder more students and likely staff weren't killed. I can see both Harry and Neville snapping at the same time and taking out the trash. Unfortunately, I can also see some innocents also being killed just for speaking up or trying to talk either or both down. But the supposed teachers of that supposed school are mostly to blame for what happened. I mean, look at first year. Harry, Hermione and MoooRon loose a total of 150 points for being out of their dorm at night. Not for doing anything dangerous but just for being out of their dorms. Then serving detention in the Forbidden Forest at night looking for something killing Unicorns was totally out of control! There had to be something exceptionally wrong with the headmaster as he thought everything he did was for the greater good. Nothing he did was for the good of anybody! How he could not realize that if Harry Potter died in one of his damnable test the magical public wouldn't likely draw and quarter him makes no sense! But only if the Daily Prophet told them the truth! That so called News Paper has been a joke in the English magical world for generations and nobody has any intention of changing it! But then the English magical world doesn't want to read the truth. They might actually get off their asses and fix things if they did! Nice story but I personally think Harry really should of said at the end of second year " Screw this! Two years in a row I'm almost killed at the supposed safest school in the world! No way in hell am I going back there next year! And screw the Dursleys as well! Dumbledore wants them he can have them!" Then take a bus into London during the summer, go to Gringotts, talk to the Goblins about finding a school outside of the United Kingdom and transferring there. Of course he'd have to make sure Dumbledore couldn't force him to return to Hogwash regardless of what he said to anybody. In some other country Harry might just get the education he deserves and is paying for. I really can't see his parents being upset he didn't continue at Hogwash if he's getting a better education as well as his life not being in danger every year. So either Harry would have to attend in disguise or attend in a country where dear old Albus has no pull. Of course I can easily see Dumbledore kidnapping Harry to force him to attend Hogwash and continue risking his life every year. Albus is like that, yeas he is.

I loved this! I think back to High School when a Neville-type was brutally bullied for a couple of years before he snapped one day and crippled the worst of his tormentors for life. I even warned the stupid bastard that it would happen but he laughed it off.

JKR has been retconning the bad guys into victims of circumstance for years, while running her protagonist and his family into the ground since Book Four, when Harry's IQ was quartered during the book. (well, I guess Idiot Plots require everyone to be idiots)

I completely agree with you about McGonagall's uselessness. Giving detentions for being out of bounds after hours in a place that is out of bounds and at a time that is after hours is pretty friggin' stupid. Harry should have crucio'd her instead of the DE in Book Seven.
