My thought about all the story behind Robert/Rhaegar/Lyanna is split in three way:

-Lyanna was a selfish bitch, plain and simple. Yes, being a woman in Westeros it's not a walk in the park, but neither she was to be married to a monster. If she would have been a little more receptive to Robert, instead of being a whining brat, tons of bloodshed could have been avoided. She was the primary cause of his father's and eldest brother's deaths;

-Rhaegar was a mostly good but foolish man blinded by a prophecy (feeble things, prophecies!) and I think he possessed a little of his family madness (in the form of obsession with the whole PTWP bullshit). He treated his own wife horribly (because spurning Elia the way he did and then hiding with Lyanna in DORNE was more than a slight, IMHO) and left her and his children in the hand of his deranged father. Elia, Rhaenys and Aegon were killed for Rhaegar's folly;

-Robert was a loud man, sometimes too much, and in the canon he was basically a defeated man, who didn't like being king, hated his wife and despised his firstborn and his entire family-by-law (with the exception of Tyrion, maybe). And a man that still pitifully pined after a girl long dead, whom he didn't actually know very well. Robert caused the collapse of the Seven Kingdoms with his carelessness. To me, a Robert not being king, but merely the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands, is already a better Robert. It's not causal that he wanted to be buried at Storm's End.

As for Robert/Lyanna, yours is a very well approached tentative at this particular pairing. For myself, I don't know if they would have worked, especially in the long run. Maybe Lyanna, with her fiery personality, would have been more suited for the lively Lord of Storm's End, instead of bitchy Cersei. Maybe you're right and he would have at least tried to be faithful, if he craved for Lyanna's love and respect (something he didn't want from Cersei since THE START of their poisonous marriage).

This was a great fic! I wish their was more! Robert/Lyanna fics are rare but so fun to read!

Really like your take on Lyanna, Robert and Rhaegar, and on the Stark family dynamic.

And as far as the obsession Rhaegar had of his decendents saving the world, I always think of GRRM's attitude towards prophecy and the story he uses of the lord who was told he's die by a certain castle, avoided it like the plague, and died at an inn that had a picture of it. In Westeros, that stuff isn't set in stone. So kudos on not going with the whole Jon Ahai/ Dany Ahai stuff.

Great story. Maybe you could write a sequel 15-20 years later. It can be a short story of Lya looking back or something...

My only displeasure is it could not keep going. I loved the resolution very much so in character. Well done my friend I enjoyed reading this so much so little love for Robert when people don't look at his other actions only the bad ones.

Robert loves children and now that he's happy I think he would make a great father. He is a good man at heart who has shirty luck when his parents where taken from him. He is always so Jolly and his charisma won over hated enemies.

If you decide to continue this know you have a supporter in me friend. Can't wait for your next work in ice and fire.

Huh.. so you believe that theory that Rhaegar was plotting to overthrow Aerys with the aid of the Lord Paramounts, and that they knew about it.

I never really believed that any of the Lord Paramounts actually knew what Rhaegar planned. Plus most of the LP didn't go to Harrenhal if I recall.
