I love the concept of this story. But also Ox you are an a$$hole. Mental illness is just as bad as physical illness.

It's awesome! xD I really loved it and it tugged my heart on several occasions. It's a shame that I didn't know the movie Timer until now.

This was such a wonderful read. I can't fully put in words how much I loved your story. I love the way you portrayed Maka, that even in an AU, she feels so real, a girl with her insecurities and problems in commitment. I love her inner dialogues and how witty she was here. And i love love Maka and Soul's interactions, and how realistic you portrayed meeting a total stranger labeled as your soulmate would actually take place. It was so raw and the awkwardness was palpable even without you, the writer, explicitly telling the readers so. I love love love how you ended it but at the same time I crave for more of these characters of your masterfully crafted world of timers and the unknown. The way you weaved your story of how someone as jaded and cynical as Maka, as well as Soul, could still never deny the bond they have. And the way you portrayed the romance without it being too cheesy and corny, kudos to you I say. I adored how the whole time I was reading this, I could actually picture it in my head like a movie, because the dialogue was that great. It wasn't stilted or something that you'd never hear a real person say. I could go on and on about how much I loved your story. I'll end it here and I can't wait to read more from you!

This was extremely well-written, superbly evoking from me the emotions Maka was feeling.

It also had a much more satisfying ending than the actual movie. I thank you profusely for that :)

HEY so I really enjoyed this - I'm so glad you participated in Resbang this year and that you finished your story, because it's an awesome addition to the fandom! The issues it brings up are absolutely fascinating (and I'm sure you are getting inspiration from your source material, but I'm not familiar with TiMER, so to me it's all brand new). Anyway, it would be a pretty emotionally complicated development for humanity to invent such a device, and I like that you fully acknowledged that.

And most importantly, I absolutely adore awkward emotional Maka and Soul (but don't we all). I wanted to hug Maka and tell her it would all be okay, and god, when Soul finally appeared! I really enjoyed that he appeared late, by the way, because it increased the anticipation for the audience and it increased the feeling of mystery and it also increased the sense of otherworldliness/magic that accompanies the idea of the "soul mate." We as the readers knew he was out there, and we understood why he wouldn't have a Timer yet, and we were given the wonderful opportunity to simply imagine what he might be up to the whole time. All that frustration made the ending that much sweeter! Soul apologizing for being late was incredible. I like that he was sensitive to it.

The way Maka felt angry with her mystery-soulmate for not getting his Timer is very beautifully in-character. Same for the way Soul hesitates for so, so long to get the Timer. While I can see why it makes Maka angry that he'd wait, I think he has exactly the same kinds of doubts Maka has about the whole phenomenon, but he chooses to approach it from the opposite direction, which is to resist getting one in the first place. Thematically, this goes back to the way Maka is the one who is likely to charge into a situation headfirst while Soul is more likely to hang back and avoid people, but in the end, their fears - of inadequacy, rejection, and loneliness - are the same.

One thing I'd LOVE to have seen from this fic, if it had been longer, would be an exploration of the concept that Stein was talking about, with the importance of choice in a relationship. For example, what if the Timers were some kind of elaborate hoax? I could imagine a very powerful scene where Soul and Maka realize all there is to their relationship is what they choose for themselves; there's no fate, no destiny, no red string tying them together... But they choose to stay together because they're in love, and they make the choice to stay that way.

Speaking of that scene with Stein, I loved that, too. One might think it would be a bizarre job for him to have, working with Timers, but in fact, it worked perfectly here.
