Do you pick the poem, quote, or song first and then build your story round it or the opposite? I'm reminded of your use of Rilke's poem about love in Dash Away and how you set the stage for it's introduced to the story and to your readers chapters in advance. You seem to be genius at doing this.

I loved every bit of this story. The scene at the precinct was perfect ... Kate may doubt that she's "doing it" with Rick, her guilt weighing her down when work makes her miss these moments, but the fact that she spoke up to Gates, that she made the decision to go home to her family, proves otherwise. They are figuring it out, together. And the fact that Rick reassures her of that is just beautiful. Lovely story.

Your stories really make me think! That's not always such a good thing, because I confuse easily! I was all over the place at the beginning trying to figure out what was going on! Then finally realizing the deaths were cops and this last one, someone that they knew.

First Christmas, I'm thinking as a married couple, not for the child! So, that had me all messed up! No wonder she was so anxious to be home for the baby's first Christmas!

But, where you really got me pondering was here at the end, where she seemed to be thinking that she may never be quite able to hold up her end of this bargain that they had cut. This promise that they had made to do it together. She is beginning to see that as much as she really wants to be that great a partner in this, her profession is not really going to allow it. And even though this man that loves her so very much knows that and still accepts it and carries on, Kate feels like she is letting him down. And I think all Castle sees is this amazing woman giving everything she has!
