I'm completely in love with this story. And yes! it feel evil to let this on cliffhanger for what you think was for a month but whose turned out to be a full 5 years *crying*

Nopes not at all, it's an interesting point of view and it's a decision not something about convincing others. I actually quote liked how you portrayed it in a way that shows the deep connection that Kaito has with animals.
Beside that, I'm in love with the development of this story, and I can't manage such a horrible cliffhanger with a nearly dead kid.
I also love kaito and hakuba's heart to heart friendship as it's smth you don't see in other stories.
Keep it up and I really really really hope to read another chapter from you
