One reason for the difference is that Minerva might not have said that all Dark Wizards were in Slytherin; though she might have said something similar, her prejudice is right out in the open (what a pity that Snape didn't know about the Dursleys till fifth year in canon, I expect he might have had a lot to say about them if he'd found out earlier).

But this is a delightful little AU with a new Trio in Ravenclaw. I wonder if Flitwick will allow them to be lured into danger?

Interesting idea- I bet McGonagall would pull out the stops to help Harry with the Dursley's even if he is not in her House now she has seen his home life.

It would be cool to see an AU where Crabbe and/or Gogyle where placed in Hufflepuff for their loyalty traits, and they did put in hard work guarding Draco.

Actually, split them up- Goyle forms a friendship with Harry while waiting for Draco at Kings Cross, and ends up in Hufflepuff with him - or even Grifindore! Crabbe meanwhile is stuck with Draco in Slytherin...

"She wouldn't be surprised if ... being sorted into Griffindor drove him dotty." That's hilarious - 11 year old Hermione was so apt to make categorical judgements like that, and this one is rather plausible.

I've always wondered what it would be like if they were in different houses. Hermione should have been a ravenclaw.

Good story.

Hermione learn early that some Gryffondor are reckless idiots and will fit better in Ravenclaw, Harry was disgrunted by Minerva's strictness and managed to avoid the Gryffondor/Slytherin's feud as well that Ron's bad influence on his grade and hopefully is going to be more prepared to his destiny (Flitwick is a duel champion) and fit better. Draco show his lack of cunning with his fight with Ron and try to befriend Harry to calm his father and I hope they're both going to have a good influence on the other. Since Harry didn't meet Ron and Draco on the train, the latter seems only posh and friendly to him and Draco will have less pressure to act like his family and learn early that his house is less prejudiced.

Even though it's just a tidbit, we on 'author alert' appreciate it!

What a very different universe this would make. Personally, I think they all belong in Slytherin. I'm sure that's where Hermione would be if blood wasn't an issue.
