I like the way you had Xander learn about what was going to happen in the future.

Y'know...I kind of like this fic (there's another Macross/Robotech crossover out there but I'm not a fan of that), but one thing bugs me; the whole "Buffy's real name is Elizabeth"-thing. First of all, her canon name really is Buffy Anne Summers. Second, the fact that her name is an unlikely hero name *is* the whole point of it being her name. Whedon literally set out to give his heroine the kind of name horror movies gave the girls who sprained their ankles and got eaten. Yes, it's a silly name. But it's no sillier than Cordelia, Aphrodesia, Harmony, Oz, Xander or Willow. It's, above all, a Californian name. And Buffy is meant to be a quintessential bubble-gum-chewing Cali girl.
Just my two cents.

I hope to see more of this and other Robotech stories.

So his main problem will be fuel, ammo and spareparts.
If Xander is lucky, though, then he has somehow gotten the blueprints needed for them, but if not...

I want to state that I am surprise to actually see a update for the story. For most part sadly Robotech is a mostly forgotten series, along with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I want to state that I have two bits of help that I can offer for you to use for your story, basically info sites. The first is Robotech wiki, it shows its a rather good collection of related information. The second is KissCartoon a massive cartoon online site (including cartoon movies), which includes the entire Robotech anime series, normally this would be put on their sister site, KissAnime, but oddly enough they placed Robotech on KissCartoon. On KissAnime, you will find the three original Japanese anime series that were brought together and transformed into Robotech in their original forms. Also I want to state that KissAnime is one of the biggest anime sites I have yet to encounter, it covers from new to the oldest anime series (black and white Astro Boy, the first). Both sites are totally free to watch, you can set up profiles that only require an online name and a password, other than that you are set. The loading for both sites are fast and the imaging is the best I have seen, only a few of the oldest, and I mean old is a rough image, and there is no buffing problem where the video stops and you have to wait for it to buff to restart. Check it out, you will be amazed.

Note: KissCartoon is unique to because it constantly update their site with the latest cartoon series and movies. I personally watched Big Hero 6 four months before it was release on DVD. And I have discover Home is alright on the site, shortly after the movie came out. You want to watch the latest cartoon movie, check this site, it have them before they are release for sale. Also the site has the largest collection of Disney movies and cartoon series (like Star Wars Rebels, the complete Clone Wars), something no other (I know of) site can provide because of copyright problems.

I'm pretty meh about how he got there. The whole PTB decided they need you to do 'whatever' just doesn't work well as a plot device to me. Why didn't they just send one of their random errand guys like say Whistler, to deliver the message to themselves. Since they are outside of time, all they would have needed to do was give random mook underling a portal back device at any time before the blackout happens and wait for them to trigger it. If they don't come back, well he probably died - so give it to that mook instead. Rinse and repeat until they finally get the answers they want.

I just don't care for that kind of thing. The whole mission-from-god-but-not-really thing just puts me off - which is not helped by just how many stories use that premise and do it so badly. I far prefer time travel stuff like this being the last desperate hope against the literal end of the world type of thing.

Having him driving along and accidentally go through a portal that just opened in front of him, no explanation given for it at all just a random whatever. He crashes in the future, gets caught up in things and manages to survive everything that comes after through luck, skill, and by the skin of his teeth. When the Old ones come back, he joins the fight against them. It's a losing battle and the last mages and scientists, desperate and seeing the end of everything, try and find a way to prevent it from ever happening - using magic they search for the last bit they need, and find Xander who has been marked by his trip through the portal. They tell him what they are going to do, prepare as best everyone can while they finish the spell/whatever, then send him back in time.

Something like that would just feel a lot better. No 'here's what is going to happen, plus we'll give you a boost to make sure you survive-you're obviously doomed without it, and lastly a handy portal to home for use once you find out what we want'.

As it is, everything that happened to him in the future, he's always going to know in the back of his head that he always has a way back and that he's been given special help to make it back. That just really cuts down on a ton of the tension and everything else about his trip into the future.

thx for the update, fyi, in all of the comics that had the Visitor's arrival, the western United States, especially California, had caused a lot of collateral damage as it entered the atmosphere. The trajectory was going thru San Francisco and after the shockwave which caused a lot of buildings to fall apart, there was a lot of earthquakes and a major tsunami some days later after impact. Overall the West Coast was wiped out...honestly if Xander is hell bent on changing the past and not just survive it, he should declare an emergency that the Big One might be happening within the next couple of days...get the Watchers Council to use their political influence to warn the west coast, their seers can verify that something major is going to happen in a few days and that's all they need to know to create a panic for ppl to prepare...get ppl to move far east of the San Andreas fault as it seems the Visitor's passage had caused the fault line to be stressed to the point of causing a major earthquake...

also wanted to add since Hawaii is likely east of the South Ataria islands, the west side of Hawaii is likely to be hit with a major tsunami as well so it's best to have the population go to higher ground when the Visitor impacts Macross island...going from the anime and comics, the Visito's trajectory had entered the atmosphere around eastern Canada and then past thru California and then hitting Macross island...wonder if Xander can sneak his way into the initial recon team...would he help the scientist get into the hidden section where the Protoculture Matrix is located and even gain access to Zor's secret computers that Lang had found...anyway if anything, Xander should at least know how to use the Tirolian computer systems if he's a robotech biomechanical engineer...

I love the story so far and I really can't wait to see where this goes!

hmm... I will need to withhold judgement until I see more. As your author notes doe hold many of the questions I have.
