Kinola chapter 1 . 9/9/2017
Interesting take on the Rhaegar/Lyanna relation, but I noticed that this story seems to lack apostrophes. For example, where it says “Prince Rhaegar violet eyes seemed to shine,” it should actually be “Prince Rhaegar’s violet eyes seemed to shine”. I hope you understood.

Thank you for this fic! I'm so tired of seeing Rhaegar portrayed as a heroic prince, when he he actually was a creepy adult that abandoned his wife and children so he could rape a 15 year old. I also love how you portrayed Robert and Lyanna:)

From reading this, I'd have to guess that English isn't your first language. The grammar in this story is pretty off. Please let me know if you'd like help editing it.

Pirate King Ray chapter 1 . 6/20/2016
Fair point but having rhargar and lyanna in love also breaks the cliche. In tropes it's usually that the power of love makes it work...if they were in love and things fall it's just as tragic. Instead of making things better love made it worse. Plus it implies the rape is justified which is rather sleazy

melubarv chapter 1 . 7/21/2015
Ooooh Thank you. I love this, I'm so sick and tired of people thinking that Rhaegar Targaryen was such a great guy, and that there is nothing wrong with abandoning his wife and children (and at the mercy of his crazy murderous father) to kidnap/run off with a girl that is already betrothed and then do nothing after said crazy father murders half her family and the 7 kingdoms he was supposed to rule fall into chaos, just to appear again solely to fight (and possibly kill) the favorite brother of the girl he supposedly love.

He was definitely not as wise and correct as people delude themselves into believing by romanticising their story. If he kidnaped her then he is just a rapist and a monster
and if Lyanna went willingly, ok he might not have been evil, but he was definitely selfish and a fool. And I'm pretty sure his obsesion with that prophecy is not the sign of a sane man.

And if Lyanna really went willingly, at least she has the excuse of being 15 years old, people at that age can be reckless, unwise and selfish in a way that has more to do with their lack of awareness of how their actions affect others, though that is a poor excuse too. Yes, she spent her life sheltered and privileged, she did not know any better, but that is the thing, she really should, she was young, but she wasn't young enough that she couldn't stop and think for a second what she was doing. She fell into the cliche teenager that feels the world is against her and thinks of nothing but themselves.

She was selfish too, being a noble it's not just privilege, it's also responsibility, you cannot have one without the other and they both balked at the obligations part. But obviously, neither of them cared.

I do think she might have wanted to leave him after she saw what her little whim caused, but she couldn't and so she realised too late that the freedom she thought she gained was actually a prison in an unknown land.

And lets not forget the fact the he was 23/24 and a prince, the power was too uneven for it not to come of as dub-con at least.

And I also find it funny that nobady comments on the fact that she ran off with a married man with two children to give him some bastards because Robert had a bastard and she was afraid he would never keep to their marriage bed. I mean, REALLY?!, Seriously WTF?!
hi chapter 1 . 7/4/2015
Evidence why Rhaegar did not rape Lyanna:
- She cried because of his music at Harrenhal
- She died clutching the blue roses Rhaegar gave her at Harrenhal
- Why would Ned speak kindly of the man who raped his sister?
- Only Bran and Robert Baratheon speak negatively about Rhaegar, and that is because Bran is likely repeating rumors he has heard, and Robert is likely doing so because he wanted to believe he and Lyanna were in love.
- Why wouldn't Lyanna, who is said to have been like Arya, being fierce and headstrong, run away from a marriage she was forced into?

Also, if GRRM didn't like fantasy tropes, why would what I believe happened between Rhaegar and Lyanna happen to Robb Stark and Jeyne Westerling?

Although I disagree with your portrayal of Robert's Rebellion, Harrenhal, etc. I do think this would've been what happened if your theory is correct and mine is wrong.

OMG I was crying after I read this. I think is it awesome! :)
I always hear how Rhaegar loves Lyanna (you know when they talk about it in scenes from GoT) but whar I only hear about Lyanna was her personality. I think no one knows how she reacted being kidnapped or what was her reaction in her situation or how she felt inside that tower with Rhaegar. But your story gave me a satisfaction on what might have happen between R and L. That is why I think it's awesome :)
monkey kix ass chapter 1 . 6/26/2015
wow, i loved your characterization of the characters! i totally agree with your interpretations of the events since it makes so much sense. arya is always compared to lyanna, and i can't see arya running off to become a second wife for any man, even if she "loved" him. what kind of strong willed female would allow herself to be reduced to being a maiden in distress. and if lyanna really had left of her own volition because she was in love with the prince, there is no way that she wouldn't have done something to save her family, thus, she must have been kept locked up against her will. anyways, really enjoyed reading your story. thanks for sharing your work.

Me miss this story very much!
Me hope read new chapters very much!
Me cry and be very sad not to see new chapters!
Guest chapter 1 . 4/24/2015
I feel like your second theory holds more weight. I think Rhaegar came on to her like a song but where she was the knight and he was the damsel in distress. Her main gripe with Robert wasn't his whoring cuz Brandon was the same way her gripe was that she wanted to be the man in the relationship

I personally really really dislike the Targs more mad Kings in the short 300 years than you can wave a stick at whereas I can't recall any mention of mad Starks in 8000! eccentric maybe like the Stark King who burnt the northern fleet but not being an outright lunatic (if I only read that about burnin the ships somewhere on FF my bad)
