Oh, and also I forgot to add, Hiccup and Astrid's interactions in this story is just hilarious! xD I think it's pretty obvious by now that Astrid has a crush on him. *wink wink*

Apologies for the late review m8. I've had a rather interesting week, one that involved a 1 day trip with my family to the provinces in my country (WITH NO INTERNET!), and then my laptop breaking down. Had to wait for 2 days until the blasted thing could be repaired...

Anyways, onto the actual review!
Hmmm. The first thing here that caught my attention was Astrid. I was honestly expecting her to be a bit more, well, feisty, during her 1st day in captivity, and I didn't expect she'd be that willing to listen to Hiccup. I mean, she was taken from her home and all... but yeah; then again she's smart, so she'd know better than to provoke her captor; she's technically on enemy territory as it is. And plus, Hiccup's pretty much all she can rely on, and the closest one whom she can call "friend"...

Moving on.
Hmmm. So the Berk of this story is actually somewhere in between Sweden and Finland eh? I guess it would make sense for the Viking's language to be Icelandic/Old Norse. And speaking of which, sorry, but I laughed when you mentioned that you just used Google Translate for the language here. xD Oh, and why am I not surprised. Lol. Most of the authors I've met in this fandom also use the same site. In fact, I originally learned about said site through Midoriko-sama, famous writer of the "Becoming" trilogy. Also, speaking of which, phew. I'm glad that Berk isn't necessarily evil. But sorry bout that! I just kinda got the wrong impression is all. :P

Anyways, regarding the structure of the Viking tribes, I've actually learned quite about it as I read this, which is the "Jarl". Ever played the game Skyrim by Bethesda? After spending some time playing that game, I realized that some of it's aspects were inspired by Norse/Scandanivian/Viking stuff (I know. Can't believe it took me a long time to figure it out), like the draugr, the races you choose for your character, and even in the gameplay (the weapons and armor...), but I didn't know a "Jarl" was actually a real thing. Oh well. :/

That being said however, I find it interesting that Hiccup's dad is the Jarl. No wonder he's treated like nobility, and how he had the right to "claim" Astrid and take her from Eret. Hmmm. I imagine that will have some repercussions of some sorts, seeing as Eret's the son of a chief, so I'm guessing a problem will arise in the social structure of Viking society... anyways, looking forward to the explanation of, err, Viking culture in general.

Well, that's all I got for now. Nice touch when Ruffnut was introduced (that was Ruffnut at the end of this chap right?). Hopefully she'll be the "girl/friend" of Astrid as this story progresses. Anyways, all in all, a well written chap, so thanks for sharing it with us. :D

For now, seeing as Ruffut was already introduced, I'm looking forward to meeting the other characters, and also as to how Astrid will adapt to Viking culture. And, being considered as a "sex slave", how will she fit in their society...

Forgot to ask. But you said Hiccups dad is Jarl and directs the raids. Does that mean his dad is not only head of Berk but of other tribes as well. Similar to the President of like the US over the Govenors of the States? Could you explain that in the story as well?

-This is very interesting so far.
-First few chapter's I suspected Astrid to be either from Europe or the English Isles.
-I hope you tell, explain, the groups ages as well. If your following the timeline of the movies I am guess this is before the second movie? Since Hiccup said a few years ago he shot down Toothless. So He'd be about 18 or the group around 20 like in HTTYD 2?
-Will Astrid be accepted more than like a slave at some point? I could see her fighting spirit playing a part in strengthening Hiccup position and hers as well.
-This is an interesting take from the movie, though more realistic in a sense since the Nordic peoples did do a lot pillaging and other actions. Seems more like a show in a way but its fun to read so far!
-Hope Drago isn't aligned with Hiccup and such.
-Cannot wait for the next update!

Was just trying to offer some friendly advice. The story is shaping up nicely, well done

I'm so happy to be reading this fan-fic. I've never seen this type of AU before, it's kind of refreshing. The AUs I've seen is Hiccup running away with Toothless (sometimes Astrid is with them) and they come back to Berk (most likely attacking it). Then Hiccup would kidnap Astrid (if she's not already with them) and he would teach her about dragons. Then Stockholm syndrome kicks in (not that I mind, because I love this pair too much care). In the end Hiccup and Toothless returns to Berk and they accept them. Everyone is happy!

However your fan-fic is quit interesting. I figured Astrid is not from Berk and there's a huge language barrier between her and Berk citizens. Only Hiccup is the bridge between her and Berk. Hiccup did not technicality kidnapped her because he was protecting her from Eret. Speaking of Eret, you said he was the son of a chief. So does that mean there are more Islands like Berk (YES! An AU that starts with Berk already accepting dragon, another thing unique about you fan-fic). By the looks of it Eret's island allies with Berk, or is he, personally, associated with Berk? About Astrid's village, I feel like it's English Based or is it Viking Based? And what about the relationship with the dragons?

I'm really sorry about the question and analysing just 3 chapter. Its just this is so original and unique. I think I'm going to really like this fan-fic. Please keep up the hard work, cause I'm looking forward to reading the next chapter, and the next chapter, and the next chapter, etc. Do your best.

ohh this is too good! keep it cominh! also im abit confused as to what kind of AU this is set in. Could you make a short authors note at the start of the next chapter explaining it? like the time period, what kind of tribe is berk, why they raid places etc.

Very interesting story! Excited for the update. I'm a little concerned about Astrid's mother though, how does she know that she's not dead? Just something I was wondering as I read.

Just found this story about 10 minutes ago, and I must say that it's been a while since a story has gotten me this interested. As you said before, and quite obviously, this is an AU, but this has got to be the most interesting one I've so far. Most AUs I've read are the ones like the "Hiccup ran away and traveled to places beyond the reaches of the Barbaric Archipelago, and returns to Berk later on" fics, blah blah, blah; the best example of which is, what I consider one of greatest story's in this fandom, Midoriko-sama's "Becoming" trilogy. Then we have AUs where Hiccup was taken by dragons/a dragon and was raised among them, then by chance he ends up in Berk and decides to change the villagers ways and show them the truth about dragons, etc etc.

This story of yours however... the plot of this is nothing like I've ever read before m8. So Astrid is taken away from her home (which was quite sad, seeing as she still has a family in her home), which isn't Berk, by Hiccup and his fellow Vikings, and decided to take her to their tribe's island? Hmmm... this might be an understatement, but this is a very interesting plot you've chosen. From what I've read so far, there are some parts that caught my attention and raised questions in my head. One is that Berk has already made peace with dragons, whereas Astrid's village apparently thought of these creatures as wild animals...
Another one was Eret. In this story, he's the son of a chief eh? Hmmm. It'll be interesting too see him in future chaps.
Not to mention that in this chapter, I noticed this particular part, where it was mentioned that when Astrid's village was under siege, the fighting was centered in the "militia headquarters and the town square where most of the men went to drink", and that "houses around were mostly untouched"? Hmmm. I guess that says something about Hiccup and his tribe, but I'm wondering if the Berkians are good or evil, or something in between...

Oh, and if I may ask: does the timeline of this AU follow any of the ones in history? More specifically the period in history known as the Viking Age? From what I've gathered from a very reliable site on the internet about Vikings (The Viking Answer Lady site) , this age is the period 793 - 1066 A.D. in European History. Basically, this was the time when groups of Scandinavian Norsemen raided and also traded with other countries/places in Europe at that time. But anyways, I'm just curious, seeing as Astrid lived in a village constantly raided by these said Vikings.

So to close, you've got my attention, and I really look forward to continue reading this m8. This is one very well written story you've made, and I find that I quite like your writing style. Plus, I don't really mind if this is M rated; so long as there's no pointless smut or anything. With that in mind, I think I can see where this is going, but I'd rather sit back and observe. It's going to be interesting to see Berk and it's citizens. I for one, am excited to see the other characters, and especially how you'll portray them. For now, I wondering what are Astrid's thoughts on her current situation, and how she feels about a certain dragon rider...

Cya in the next chap m8! Of all the AUs I've looked at, this is certainly one of the most unique ones I've ever read, so I hope it's not too late for me to join the ride. :D

P.S. I almost forgot. If I may ask, what language was Hiccup and Eret speaking? Is that Icelandic or like Old Norse? I'm not really familiar with these languages, and I tried researching on the few dialogues where they were speaking in this language, but I got nothing. Sorry. :)
