Thank you for this delightful piece of writing. Seeing the name 'Mrs Reynolds' tempted me to read this as I am usually a reader of very long, very detailed stories. This short story was well worth reading. Hopefully you will be tempted to write some more vignettes from Mrs Reynolds' POV.

Fantastically done. You've managed to portray the swayable opinions of the gossipy masses in a funny way that really evokes thought. When I read it, it sounds like you took a page from P & P and it's really interesting that you even followed the language of that time. It just needs some dialogue and a general plot and you have yourself your first chapter. This has a really good potential to be a fanfic sequel to the book. If you can, please do so. Your writing is lovely.
