So was Lily potioned, magically compelled in some way, or just plain indoctrinated is what I am wondering. Because honestly, Lily did not seem to have been raised with any kind of extremist views. So it is strange to me that even if she was heavily exposed to house prejudice at Hogwarts, the fact that she was friends with Snape for several years prior to their falling out should have made her reject the notion that she should lock the magic of and abandon her first born child based on the fact that all Slytherins are apparently evil. I am sure there are reasons I am missing, so I will apologize for my obsessive need to know.
