Reviews for What If
Flygar chapter 7 . 7/13
Probably didn't help that the Grimoires existence also gave physical proof that not all wizards or witches had the same rights, and that muggle-born are a severe disadvantage in all things magic. Seeing her best friend that for the past three years was basically suicidal in his actions and adventures and was only alive thanks to her on several occasions (and vice versa), this and the previous observation when mixed with her love and knowledge and sharing it, and the fact that suddenly Neville and Ron became Harry's focus for knowledge, knowledge on their current society, magic, and culture that for some reason no mention of such things were brought up after three years of supposedly elite level education in magic, I'd cut her some slack and wanting to figure out what is up with these books that seem to hold the secret/reason/focus of Harry's change. Was she right in her actions? No, she got obsessive and focused on the knowledge in the secret book would fix things for her, like they did Harry. Was Harry (and Ron and Neville) a reaaallly shitty friend when dealing with Hermione afterwards and trying to explain things to her? Yeah, he was. Patronizing beyond belief is the only way I can categorize the new interested-in-magic society Harry. Basically, I hate the entire trio's interaction in this scenario, Hermione for her actions, and the guys for not even attempting to bring their supposedly close friend into the topics of magic society. They saw her as locked into a train of thought and gave up, saying she'd get it eventually. When was the last time someone just "got something" when it came to societal differences? You have to open dialogue, not say "Its private to the Family, dont you get it?" No, I'd also not get it at first, and I doubt the idea of Pureblood families having ANOTHER horrifically large advantage over muggleborns made her exactly happy to consider the idea acceptable on a subconscious level. The thought process for Hermione in this snapchat is also incredibly odd, given she was sorted into the House of Chivalry (I know, I know, "BUT PETTIGREW!", well keep reading), and all her actions prior when searching for info was to search others out and ask questions, you know, speak! She never reached out to a professor? or Prefect? No, I'd refute that, she'd have gathered info from everywhere first, including people.

TL;DR

On Hermione:

If Post-3rd Year Hermione had such an obsession for knowledge motivating her to snatch the Family Grimoire of a friend she has risked her life for one several occasions (and vice versa), then why didn't she open dialogue onto Wizard culture with someone? She has proven to go to Books and Professors first for all questions, and a habit of rapid fire questions when nervous. Not plotting and acting like B-rated villain.

On Ron, Harry, and Neville:

They never tried to help their friend acclimate/educate herself to a society where she was a 2nd class citizen. Just expected her to be told they all had books filled with secret magic that only got better with the older your family. Not exactly friendly actions. Doesn't excuse Hermiones actions, but see above for why her actions don't make much sense if we are going by Canon-Hermione up until end of 3rd year.

Guest chapter 2 . 6/25
Hmmm, this reminds me of another story ... a really great story. Coincidence or did you ‘borrow’ the plot?

The basic idea is alright. Harry definitely has a right to be pissed off. However, as a Harmonian I'd prefer it if Hermione had tried and was actively prevented from contacting Harry by screening their mail because children are obviously too immature to decide if the should have the right to send mail. And furthermore, Albus said so. Period.

"museum being boring" What an ignorant idiot! While I personally am not one for art museums, unless it's at least 800 or so years old, museums for history, natural history, or technology are among the most fascinating ways to find out how that what we live with has developed over time. To watch someone work all appliances at a farm museum is a great experience. And, Dudley's eleven. What kid that age doesn't like dinosaurs, the bigger their teeth the better... And the public part of the Tower IS a museum. Old building, check. Old weapons, check. Valuable jewellery, check. Hm, sounds like a museum... Stupid stupid boy.

I like Dobby's malicious smile at the thought what would befall his master/his master's plot.

And, yeah, Dumbledore never listens. He's the only person who's wise enough to direct the way of the world. Getting to hear the most cruel expression the English language has must be extremely humiliating: "Told you so!"
Kai chapter 4 . 6/5
Dorea's niece Walburga had two sons: Sirius and Regulus. Dorea's niece-in-law (is that a valid appellation? In my language it wouldn't be, but it'd be descriptive...) was Druella, née Rosier, who had the three daughters. And one multicoloured granddaughter.

Well, McGonagall definitely doesn't deserve trust. It's only the first failure here. It didn't happen in canon, so she was allowed to fail a lot more often over the years there.

Besides three teachers the whole Hogwarts staff should've been fired, thrown into Azkaban, or executed. And those three are the exceptions because so little is known about them and their subjects that no bad impression was made. They're Septima Vector, Bathsheda Babbling, and Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank, who even got a favourable description of her classes. The rest has no expertise in their subjects, or in teaching, is too complacent and let everything happen or even help along, or are even actively criminal, including torture and murder.

Hm, not so different from their government and their legal system.

Good to see Sirius redeem himself in Harry's eyes and do something to protect his godson from all those phony, fair-weather, and downright harmful 'friends'.
RevDorothyL chapter 10 . 6/1
Death's affection for and protection of Harry was adorable, in spite of the bone-chilling aspects of Death's care. :)

Hogwarts students use their brains! :)
