I am really enjoying this story! I have a question, though. It’s been a long while since I’ve dealt with the Mail going through military channels, so I’m asking if you have taken part in the program recently? If so are they faster with mail delivery now? When I took part in the program I was also in the fifth grade and it took over a month and a half to get the first reply back, and they would continue to trickle in throughout the rest of the physical yearso about four months or so. I’m not sure if this is because there was a war on at the time and the letters were traveling over to Kuwait and back or if this was just normal amount of time back in the 80s and 90s. As all the letters we would mail out to my dad and step-dad would also take about the same time to get a reply to that particular letter or card. My parents retired from the military in the 90s so I have no idea if the military got faster at delivering the mail or not. My dad once explained that on his ship (my parents were in the navy) the civilian Mail had to wait until it got to a certain amount and then it would be sent out on an out going Helo, and that was why it took so long for replies to get back or for him to get our letters. We would often get bundles of letters at a time if my dads would write often enough for the letters to end up in the same shipment and my dads have told me that they would often get all of our letters at once and they would just sort them by postmarked dates and read them that way.

Sorry about the info dump there, I was just curious as this brings back a bit of nostalgia from my own childhood and the soldier pen pal I had in fifth and sixth grade. Along with writing my dads while they were out at sea. I’m really excited to see how this story goes!
