Reviews for Diary of a Concerned Friend
Lucee4 chapter 18 . 9/12
This was so beautiful. Thank you for making this
adamantra03 chapter 18 . 7/13
So, I have to say this, you may never read it, but if you do, I hope it helps you. You are an amazing writer, no matter what anyone (including you and I) thinks. To put commentary on the story, I think that is great. The story is written from the perspectives of Ruby and Jaune, in which both analyze the development of both themselves and each other, along with analyzing the accompanying flaws. In a way, this story is flawed, but that's what makes the story so well written. It is commenting on the humanity of these two characters while also embodying that inherently flawed humanity itself. To wrap this up, I would like to thank you for writing this down and posting this publicly, I enjoyed the story immensely.

I love reading your work. I'll say that in the beginning, because it's important to make sure you know it.
I love reading your work, but I HATE how rarely you seem to stick with it and actually FINISH a fic. Hate the way you start off strong and draw me in (and likely many others too) with a story, only for it to slowly die. Hate how you get me invested in it, on the edge of my seat waiting to see what comes next, only to find that somewhere along the way you just stopped. Stopped writing the story people WANT to read and ended up just throwing down an outline of the story that it COULD'VE been or an apology for the story that it never WILL be. So many of your fics have the potential to be amazing, but don't get to be. You never let them, giving your reasons (and they aren't BAD reasons, but they aren't good enough reasons to stop anyone else as completely as they do you) why you never finished the story and calling it a day. I can't claim to speak for everyone, but I end up giving up on reading a lot of your fics because you gave up on writing a fic at all and left only the outline of one. I would rather read a story that updates irregularly, with chapters that come out anywhere between the next day and several years apart; than read an outline for what had the beginnings of a great fic, if only it stayed on a schedule you held yourself to and wouldn't deviate from or change to be able to keep it going.
I love reading your work, but at the same time, I hate reading it because I don't want to get my hopes up only to find that you gave up on the story and left an outline instead.
Calamk chapter 1 . 4/16/2019
These are the kinds of stories I adore. A story that easily could have happened and helps flesh out characters more. You can feel like the character is actually the one who wrote the book and this is a good story.
Kaiguy16 chapter 1 . 8/31/2018
This is possibly my favourite RWBY story I have read. This story has had quite a large Impact on my life and my ideology when it comes to friends especially the first chapter. I kid you not I read the first chapter of this story on a weekly basis if not daily as I relate so much with what Ruby is saying. So I guess I just wanted to thank you for writing this.
Infinity Unit 13 chapter 18 . 8/13/2018
I won’t lie, this made me cry quite a bit. It was beautiful, so very beautiful. The feelings expressed here felt genuine. And it doesn’t matter that they’re just words made up from the mind of an author, because they FELT genuine, they felt real. And that’s something to be proud of. You’re doing fantastic work, and I hope you continue to do so for much longer.
Rwby Arc chapter 18 . 10/19/2017
That was...beautiful,at least. God,why did it end?
TheBibliophile2718 chapter 18 . 10/16/2017
Great story, I'm glad that you address an uncomfortable topic that I think most people wouldn't think would fit Ruby. It did seem kind of selfish of Ruby for her to depend on Jaune on strength for being able to do the right thing or not, but I wouldn't say it's OOC.
dsty292 chapter 18 . 8/31/2017
An authentic and heartfelt look into the mind of Ruby Rose that shows us both the innocent girl she was and the hero that she hopes to become.

I am incredibly impressed. Every sentence positively oozes with emotion, and Ruby (and Jaune, to a certain extent) deal with their worries in a very real way that is easy to identify with.

Not to mention that it expands on the canon with great respect to the original material, and that's rarely an easy thing to do.
dsty292 chapter 15 . 8/31/2017
I just wanted to mention (since it seems like nobody else has yet) that the diary that inspired you may have been Theodore Roosevelt's. Less than 36 hours after the birth of his first daughter, his wife and mother both passed away in the same house, Teddy at their sides. His diary for that day reads "the light has gone out of my life."

Alternatively, it may have been two separate diaries, both joined in the understanding that anything more than those few words would be both unnecessary and undesirable.

Though on a far more positive note, your fic captured that same sentiment in Chapter 14.
That guy chapter 18 . 3/10/2017
Amazing
WindHunterMaria chapter 18 . 2/7/2017
It was amazing. I want to cry because it fits so will with both their characters and rings true so well.

Being so sure your a hero, that you wouldn't stand for that. And then having to realize you did stand by, you let it happen and you don't know how to break the cycle.

It is so true it hurts. But it is hopeful. It shows how your words can change a person even if they don't matter much to you. Your story powerful story shows that even with these flaws we can grow, become better and grow to being a hero. Because no one starts out a hero, but anyone can become one.

Prince Pondincherry chapter 9 . 11/27/2016
On a more optimistic note, I just had the thought that a lot of what Jaune inadvertently did to help Ruby and RWBY are also things that Ruby did to help Jaune and JNPR. In particular, the friend-bridging thing works both ways, as Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren probably wouldn't be friends with Yang, Weiss, and Blake (however little we ever see them interact) without Ruby and Jaune being friends. Plus, Ruby was Jaune's first friend at Remnant as much as Jaune was Ruby's.
Personally I think Ruby and the others probably didn't think about Cardin's bullying this much in canon, or they would have done something. A big strength of the Bystander Effect is how it allows people not to think about the problem they're avoiding. So while they easily could have thought about it as much as Ruby is here, they probably didn't. They probably just dismissed it relatively quickly, subconsciously because it was easier than trying to figure out how to help Jaune or stop Cardin from bullying Velvet.
