The beginning seemed like the start from a dino charge episode. With chase and Reily. Reily was practicing with a sword and chase was distracting him.

You're right the episode is familiar, This was in the Samurai Rangers run, Weiss being Kevin and Yang being Mike. First run I actually watched when it was being released.

Although it may have also occurred earlier than that, as I only know Ninja Storm and later teams.

Ever heard of Gosei sentai Dairanger? It was what most of the monsters and shogunzords were based on in season 2 of mmpr. Although I guess you have heard of it since you chose the name Aura changers for the morphers in this series. Finally, if you feel like you are running low on monster ideas in the future here is one if you need it, you could base one on Trump Koshaku or translated Trump Duke from the Dairanger movie. merely a suggestion. Is it weird that my first thought after reading the story so far is "who is/are the sixth ranger(s) going to be?" Because there are always Rangers joining up later.
