I can certainly understand Curufin's state of mind. You expressed it well. Added to that, it's strangely very much like my own way of thinking, so it sort of struck a chord with me. Did not expect that.
As you somehow managed to make him relatable to that degree, then yeah... I guess you could say you got your characterisation across...
