Reviews for The Monster and the Man
Tempest111 chapter 31 . 3/17
Wow! What a truly amazing storyline! It was interesting to discover a plausible reason for how Jellal got his unforgettable tattoo. Your story left me so intrigued and wanting that I had many sleepless nights wanting to finish it. To be honest, I absolutely love the monster that was known as Seigrain , Jellals alter ego. Reading about how his character foibles came about was really fascinating. Thanks to the great read. Keep them coming!

THIS IS SO AWESOME

Your dark fantasy stories are always deadly creative and so beautifully crafted! I'm sorry for not leaving comments earlier I HAVE JUST BEEN BLAZING THROUGH THIS ONE!

Dude, this was amazing.

I think I've already told you I'm not into Jerza much, mainly because I don't like canon Jellal. I like Grayza more.

But maaan, I loved Jellal in this. I think I love your Jellal. You created such an amazing background for him. So abused, ugh. The way he is twisted but you want to believe he'll be fine, this poor child.

And Erza too is perfect. Seriously, I think she's exactly like in canon. A bit stubborn and confident and super motherfuckering badass. She can save Jellal from his darkness, I'm sure (I am a hopeful loser). I loved that he wouldn't call Genève "madam".

The Noirverse characters are really cool. I think I both love and hate Eli more. Natalie I just hate more (in a good way?). Madame Genève was one hell of a character, it reminded me of Ivan in that other fic of yours (I forgot the name, it's one with the fire demon). The "magnifique" detail is really terrifying. I think you have an exquisite talent in portraying abusers (it's creepy, but take that as a compliment). I sense you have this thing for other languages, I can teach you a bit of Portuguese if you want, though it doesn't have the sexy vibe like French or Italian.

You know what would be super duper master blaster awesome? If you wrote something involving both bloody!Jellal and edgy!Mira. Maybe in this universe, maybe not. Just something really dark and both Jellal and Mira trying not to giving in to darkness, you know. And Erza and Laxus as bros, like two sweet Fairy Tail, power of friendship, summer children, just trying really hard to keep them sane.

HI,
I think you're story is amazing and I would love it if you also write an alternative version of Erza meeting Madam Geneve earlier.
I think their interactions would be extremely interesting to read. But obviously only if you want to write something like that.
You are clearly a very talented writer.
Thank you!

Well...here I am. Finally at the end of this story. And I am blown away.

This story was something else, honestly. It took a chapter or two to get into it, but once I did, I was hooked. This story was dark, edgy, sensual, seductive, and so many other things. It was so well written that I could actually imagine Jellal and Erza undergoing an adventure like this (that is, if Mashima ever delved into the dark and depraved and was a better writer. Nothing against the guy, it's just he needs to polish his plot development...but I digress). You wrote a whole new side for Jellal that fits with him so well. It's always been hinted that he has a dark side but this story truly unleashed the beast. And Erza; so conflicted but so willing to stand by Jellal through thick and thin. There's a reason Jerza is one of my favorite OTP's.

And it wasn't just Jellal and Erza that I liked in this story. I truly enjoyed Sienna and Nathalie's characters; they were the perfect foils for Jellal and Erza while having motives and personalities all their own. I even begrudgingly liked Julian York and Madame Genevieve. York was a scumbag but he was such a cold, calculating, and smooth bad guy that I couldn't help but like him. Same for Madame Genevieve. We didn't see much of her, but when we did, you showed how she held power over others. How she still could manipulate and toy with Jellal after so much time apart. This really shows how trauma like his (which many people endure in real life) can be so debilitating and haunting.

There were just so many things I loved about this story. The emotions evoked from the characters. The suspense of wondering if Jellal was would truly give into the monster that he once was. Wondering if he and Erza would make it out alive. The city itself had a life all it's own with diverse people who felt grounded within the setting you'd created. They felt like real people, not OC's that you just throw away. And then the sex scenes...wow, just...wow. Hot and steamy just the way I like them lol. Is it wrong of me for wanting to Sienna and Nathalie to have a foursome with Jellal and Erza? Lol. I kid, I kid...for the most part.

This was a damn good story and I could spend so much time trying to explain why I enjoyed it so much. But there's only so much I can put into words. So...take this review as my humble appreciation for all the hard work you put into this story and as a very overdue congratulations for having completed this story from start to finish. This story, amongst the other's I've read and reviewed, is proof of your talent as a writer. You have a gift and I thank you for sharing it us to read and enjoy.

Once again this was a fantastic, no, magnifique story with stellar writing. I'll continue to read your other works but with The Monster and the Man now completed, I find myself wanting to start a new dark adventure (amongst the other stories I'm reading and writing) lol. Perhaps I'll give Noir a go over the summer. If I do...well, I'm sure I'll enjoy that story too and you can expect a review from me once I complete it.

Sincerely: DD42

Wonderful book. I enjoyed the clever backstory for Jellal. It's unique and practical (if the town of Innisfil actually existed). The relationship between Erza and Jellal is also perfect. Erza's devotion to Jellal and the intensity of their love is portrayed very strongly in this book. It's almost refreshing. All in all, I appreciate the effort you've put into this story; it's the best Jellal x Erza story I've ever read.
nothingwillsuffice chapter 24 . 5/14/2017
I love how Erza is progressively conceding to Innisfil's rules, and very unnatural nature. Her darkness is being uprooted, and Jellal's demons only encourage it. With the town of Innisfil bringing out their worst, we see our protagonists in an interestingly new light.

This book so far is amazing, I fell in love with it from the moment I first started reading it. I haven't read "Noir" yet, and I know this is a prequel, but I'll probably read it after this. Just because I found this one first. I'm addicted to reading, I'm pretty sure- mental illness and all, no joke- and this book is addicting. A bad combination; you'd be surprised how bad the withdrawal is with this particular combo. For something like reading.

I can't express how much I enjoy a slightly- just slightly- more extreme version of Jellal. I feel this book digs and worms its way into the deepest, darkest recesses of his mind and fucks them up. It's refreshing, almost. Erza as well. Giving into sinful pleasures, but with all of her emotions and mentality proper. She also retains good will and- quite interestingly- even goes so far as to be human. When she questions herself, and finds a dark place she hadn't noticed before, she wonders what kind of ill will would she feel if she allowed herself to indulge her (for lack of better word) sinister and immoral thoughts and emotions. Then she ignores it, decides not to indulge it, just as Erza would.

I am mostly drawn to this book not because it centers around my OTP, not because I recognized your profile, not because you're such a good writer- though those all do help. I am primarily drawn to this book because of the dark content. It's odd, really; most people enjoy happy, fluffy books that make your day, though I don't mind those either. In some twisted way, my once optimistic mind turned (almost immorally) pessimistic. I feel as if I can relate to this book somehow, not in sins or evil intent, but in the gloomy atmosphere and feeling. I'm quite the depressing and generally detatched person (as you might have guessed). Books like these bring out a certain darkness in me that I'm not quite sure about. Not yet.

I know this is probably a comment for the end of the book, but I would like to let you know what I'm thinking and how I'm feeling halfway. Please continue to write perfect stories as the one you have carved here. I look forward to reading more of the things you've written. There is only one word to describe this book. It is simply. . .

Magnifique.
wordslinger chapter 31 . 3/3/2017
I loved this so much! I'm quite sad it's over as there's really no other fic like this (I would know, I've looked). It is in a class all it's own.
wordslinger chapter 30 . 3/3/2017
Genevieve got what she deserved even though I was surprised Erza gave him the knife to do it. But also not surprised. Eli was right but Erza was also right not to let him dig around in Jellal's head more. There's a heavy pull to fix a man one's self but Erza might find that some men can't be fixed.
wordslinger chapter 29 . 3/3/2017
Eli's offer is incredibly tempting. Erza is a better person than me but his persuasion tactics are suspect. Why does he care so much and is he trustworthy enough not to lay a Manchurian Candidate style trap? Idk idk
