oh wow! this was quite a difficult fic for me to read, not because of vocabulary, but because of memories. my grndfather died of lung cancer, from smoking, and this fic brought back lots of memories of him. thank you.

Fascinating stuff. I have to admit, back when I first read the Guards series, I was surprised that Vimes chose one self-destructive habit over another. I guess the surprise wore off, after a while. Good to see someone addressing it, though. Splendid fic. Can't wait to see more :)
