I absolutely LOVE this story! I totally agree with you on the song "Runnin'" by Adam Lambert. That was the first song that came to my mind when I read this. Your writing skills are amazing! Keep up the good work!

I... wow. Just wow. There’s so many things I have to say that I’m probably going to forget to say all of them here. (If that happens I’ll just add another review). (This makes me wish this platform had a commenting section chapter by chapter, so people could just respond as they go, but at the same time that would probably be kind of crowded an annoying. But at least all my thoughts would be out as soon as I had them. I’m always put off reviewing until I’ve caught up or finished with the book, because it’s always possible that any concerns I have may be addressed later on. Okay that was a rant, sorry).

So first off, I absolutely loved this story. I’ve never read a fanfiction of any kind that has had me THIS engaged. I found myself thinking about it so often, that’s been kind of distracting from school, haha. (I should be doing math instead of writing this review right now). And I’ve been using way more cellular data than I should have been to continue reading this. Seriously, you’re an amazing writer. I’d been reading Becoming a Guardian for a bit and I already loved your writing style, but this one just sold me on it. I loved your integration of movie quotes, and book quotes. The inclusion of elements from the books into these sorts of things always makes me happy. I can tell when the author did their homework, (although reading those books is so fun, one could hardly call it homework).
Next, I know you’re not taking song suggestions or anything, but I couldn’t help but think about a few songs while I was reading this. So if not for suggestions for a playlist or anything, I recommend these as just good songs to listen to. (Yes, there’s lot’s of Foo Fighters. Actually, it’s pretty much all Foo Fighters. I decided to leave one or two songs out because it was just so much Foo Fighters. Or it didn’t resonate with me as strongly as the others). (Fall Into Me makes for a great reading soundtrack by the way).

Okay that last one may or may not be a stretch, but I gotta say, the second to last stanza felt perfect to me.

Speaking of music and playlists, I’m having a really hard time finding yours. I don’t know if something happened to it, or if my phone or app is to blame, but I can’t find it. (Btw, you got some great songs and artists on there. *cough cough* Three Days Grace *cough* The Who *cough*)
And here’s an off topic question that doesn’t have to do with your story at all actually. How do you make those dividing lines that separate your Authors Notes from the chapters? Is it strikethrough and spaces? I’ve been seeing it everywhere and I haven’t figured it out yet... Maybe I’m just clueless, who knows...Anyhoo, if you do respond, Sapphire, I’d see it in Becoming a Guardian, or RFL 2 (eventually). But seeing as this story is done, I don’t know if you’ll even read this.

Anyways, this is just an idea, but I recommend marking this story as complete. I know that some people actually skip over stories that haven’t been updated in a while and aren’t marked as such (I know you said it was complete in your bio, but someone just skimming by probably wouldn’t see that) and I don’t want anyone to miss out on this masterpiece.
And it seriously is a masterpiece. I think I’ve honestly got a hopeless obsession here. If possible, I think I’ve entered a fandom within a fandom...
I’ll be honest, I have made plans to draw Fanart for this book, that’s how much I love it. That may not seem like much, but I hardly ever draw Fanart because I loose interest or motivation pretty quickly—loosing interest in my obsession will take my motivation with it, and I seem to flip between fandoms pretty quickly.
I have a lot of other projects right now so I probably won’t get to drawing it for a while (let’s hope my motivation sticks around until then) but I want you to know that I have a note on my phone with screenshots of scenes I wanna draw and descriptions of characters so I can always look back for reference. (Sapphire, your drawing of Jack from your Deviant art page is in this document. I love it by the way).
So if/when I do draw something for this book, I’ll add another review with the link or something. It’ll probably be on tumblr and/or instagram. So yeah. I’m excited about that.

sO. I havent interacted with the ROTG fandom for years, nevermidn read any fics in a hell of a long while. But i was flitting though my profile, and this story in my favorites list caught my eye, because I remember being OBCESSED with this fic, but i dont think i stuck around to see it end? Naturally ive just binged through the enire fanfic and maN I FORGOT HOW GOOD YOUR WRITING IS HHHHHHH im INCREDIBLY exited that you've started a sequel and im about to blitz though that hooooo boi. It was amazing! I love this fanfic so much.

My guess is that the Nightmare King is the one who started all the rumors about the winter sprites, whether the Guardians know it or not. He is the king of fears, after all. I'm sure it would be quite easy for him to infiltrate (mostly) unfounded fear for an entire race in the hearts of men. This is assuming gains power from fear in your AU.

Oh, and I'm also guessing the winter sprites were destined to defeat him one day, which is why he tried to wipe them all out. Kind of like Kung Fu Panda or Moses.

Oh, it was just a stranger doing the whipping. That makes a little more sense. If Jack was seen as nothing more than a street urchin, the guy who he stole from could certainly get away with much more severe punishments. It's easier to abuse power when no one cares about the victim.

Full-on whips? Really? Typically, when punishing children, the parents (or public official, or elder, or whoever was in charge of that sort of thing) would use switches. They stung and sometimes made you bleed, but weren't enough to tear muscles and leave scars like whips. Though it does seem like Jack has a faster metabolism than humans (hence his lack of concern toward the poison earlier, and his estimation of when it would wear off) so maybe winter sprites DID use full whips on children, though it's still surprising.
