Reviews for This Is Growing Up
Sicarius117 chapter 20 . 8/29
I've gotta say, this fic has really blown me away in every sense of the word. Not only were you able to portray the main five growing up and maturing in a believable way, but you were able to make it realistically dramatic for what dinosaurs and actual teenagers would go through. Hell, the romance was done really well too, as well as the drama surrounding such romance. That's no easy feat to pull off considering this is dinosaurs we're talking about as opposed to humans and aliens or anything like that. It all feels completely natural within the scope of the Land Before Time.

I will say, you delved dangerously close to Mature territory at Chapter 12, to the point that it was on the threshold of going M entirely. The fight at the end also came close to Mature territory. However, that's not a bad thing in my book, since I'm more than used to Mature content at this point.

On a personal note, I also subscribe to the LittlefootxCera ship more than the LittlefootxAli ship because of the sheer amount of interaction between the two in the former compared to the latter.

Awesome work overall.

P. D. You can really try yo send It to Amblin or Universal, remember you have already the "no" answer so, if they don't like your story, what's the matter? I know I can allways enjoy this story right here.
Think on It.

MoonFlameEQESO chapter 10 . 10/15/2019
Well, that was a rollercoaster of emotions i do not know were to begin!

As a romance, the story is good, reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. I guess, had you aimed for that kind of ending Littlefoot would have sacrificed himself for Cera, rejoined with his mother and changed Toppsy's ways forever for the better. But a happy ending is true to Don Bluths ways. Nice to see someone bring up dinosaur prejudices again, especially among the sauropods, which Bluth merely scratched the surface in the movie.

I genuinely laughed the first chapter. Poor Littlefoot, seeing so much and despite his enthusiasm understanding so little X D. I guess that's my only criticism of the story - It could have taken advantage of the kids obliviousness to what physical love really is and given the story and comedic touch to lighten up the mood between the melancholic drama. I'd call this one a tragedy, a great one.

Nice job my man.

The Rhombus chapter 20 . 2/20/2019
First of all, thank you for the shout out! It was my pleasure proof-reading some of the chapters of this story and being a co-author of Tears of a Sharptooth. I can certainly say that you have improved as this story has come along though the writing was always enjoyable throughout. In many ways stories like this are a mirror to our own experiences growing as writers.

Now on to the final chapter...

I love the initial setting of the stage that we have in this chapter. We see the inevitable parting of the ways with the migratory longnecks, while at the same time we are greeted to the changes that have been brought by Redclaw’s demise. Namely, the idea that Littlefoot has more of a reason to stay now than just his loyalty to his friends. Ducky’s not-so-subtle throwing of shade on the whole enterprise is also great to see. :p She has to rub in the situation to the flathead and the threehorn. Yep, yep, yep!

Also this line: “He could guess what the worry was about. Though he had reassured them a million times he wasn't going anywhere, the other three (Spike, Ducky, and Petrie) had somehow gotten it into their heads that he was bound any day to leave with Bron and Shorty in the Beyond.” almost feels like a subtle dig at the often overused plot point of Littlefoot going off with his father’s herd without being too obvious about it. I might be reading to much into it, but I do like the subtle dig at the overused plot point if that is indeed what you were going for here.

The acknowledgment that Ruby and Chomper had to part was expected. The fact that it appears that Chomper had acknowledged the necessity of this shows that he has accepted his fate in the Circle of Life while still keeping his loyalty to his friends. As such that is a fine epilogue for the two absent friends. And speaking of epilogues for characters...

"And Shorty, next time you come back we can go spiketail tipping again!" Petrie squawked excitedly.
That earned a sharp glare from Bron, as Shorty recoiled under his stern silent gaze.
"W-What? I don't know what he's talking about."
"Just say your goodbyes," the herd leader said a small sigh. "I would like to address Littlefoot and his friends for one quick moment."
...that suits Shorty just fine. :p

As for the rest of the chapter I am at a bit of a loss for words as I think it nicely sums up what they have been through and how a new balance has been forged between the five friends. Just like how the journey nearly tore them apart in the first film until they found themselves united against a common struggle, they have again come through adversity stronger than when they first entered it. Though their Time of Great Growing has only really begun, I sense that for them this is a new chapter of their friendship, and, in the case of Littlefoot and Cera, something more.

All in all this was a fitting end to this epic story. Though the Cera/Littlefoot pairing might be controversial in parts of the fandom, you have managed to present the relationship in a believable fashion that does justice to both of their feelings and the struggles that such a relationship would bring. Furthermore you have done so in a way that brings the Redclaw saga (and the fate of Chomper and Ruby) full circle, tying up many loose ends along the way. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I am sure I am not alone in saying that I look forward to reading what you will have for us next. :)
AllegroGiocoso chapter 20 . 2/19/2019
Well, I’m starting off feeling very bittersweet. So happy to read the final chapter to see how this ultimately finishes, yet knowing that alas, this will be the last time I’ll read a new chapter on this story.

Really beautiful portrayal of how much the Valley changed, mirroring the characters’ own vast growth and development through the story. The dialogue here is precious, especially with the personality-rich lines of our two main heroes. Very interesting seeing Cera’s concerns about the aftermath, adds a great touch of realism to the story, but knowing these two I’m fully confident they’ll be more than ready to overcome any challenge. Pleasing to see though that it seems to be partly generational, and that acceptance for their relationship could only grow with time. I love Littlefoot’s reflection too and his feelings of finally being with Cera. It’s just so heartwarming to read! Again, love reading the interactions with the gang (and Shorty and Ali). These sparkle with wit, humor, charm, and personality, and I find myself reading them over and over again. The subtle comments from Ali and slight flirting with Shorty are very pleasure. Really like to see that despite the goodbyes, they will be coming back in the future. Shorty’s awkwardness is just too rich! Love Bron’s words also summing up what this entire story has been like. Very touching scenes with Littlefoot and his father too. But it is even more magical seeing the gang reflecting on their experiences together. And love the group hug, very reminiscent of the end of the first movie! Also neat to see the story wrapping around nicely with a pass the rock game, emphasizing while so many things have changed, the gang’s deep friendship will always remain. And purely wonderful closing words.

Oh my goodness … Words cannot express how much this story has touched my soul in these couple of years. Everything about this story has captivated me beyond belief. Whenever I’ve read this story, I have always been whisked off to its wondrous depths of feeling, adventure, and riveting plot. This is one story for sure that I will be reading again and again, it might even be more spellbinding upon a re-read when I can take it in in one sitting for a completely immersive experience. I have been so excited for this story for all these months and absolutely adore reading it each time. If you decide to write a sequel or spin-off for this at some point, I will always be more than happy to read it. I feel so fortunate to have read this story which is so rich in depth and feeling it is virtually palpable. Thank you so much for writing this masterpiece, as it truly has bettered my life in the past couple of years and is surely a story I will keep re-reading!
