I really tried with this story, but by chapter 3 it was just literally every other character just *shitting* on Percy for existing while he hero-level holds it together.

I'm not totally sure what the point of this emotional-torture-porn is. At this point you're just making his brothers caricatures and blaming hurt/grief. I get that some people like to wallow in hurt/comfort, but this is just... unsettlingly gratuitous.

If you don't have a good handle on pacing, don't just shove more shit onto your character to compensate. At this point Percy's character and his epic downtrodden wankfest have broken my suspension of disbelief. I can no longer take the Weasley of this story seriously. You have jumped the shark so hard that you have destroyed my ability to give a shit.

Points for effort, but you should have quit when this was heart-rending and believable. Now it's just this gratuitous bullshit-fest that feels cartoonists overblown.

For fuck's sake, if you don't have real-life experience with parent death don't try to fucking write it. You will utterly fail, just like you did here, and make a mockery of the subject. Just like you did here.

Hi! Just recently found this story and loooved it, I finished ch 24 last night. I was a bit lost in the density of details and plots for a while, but I’m so happy I stuck with the story. Some things are coming together, mysteries being solved, and I’m on the edge of my seat with the things to come. Who is the Ministry Murderer? What is their connection to Voldemort? If Harry heard the basilisk again, does that mean someone else has the diary now? All rhetorical questions for now - I’m looking forward to finding out over the course of your story.

I love your take on Percy - he’s an outrageously underrated character, I always thought he had much more going on than toadying and base ambition. I love that everything in this story flows from the premise of Percy taking much greater responsibility for his younger siblings—rather than leaving it to his parents and focusing on himself, as he presumably does in canon. It also makes sense that, in Arthur and Molly’s absence, he would attract the attention of Dumbledore, the Order, the Malfoys, etc. instead.

The scene when Percy finally broke down and cried got me in the heart. He’s been through so much and tried to keep it together, and for this to finally get to him—oh my goodness. Tears and showing vulnerability are strength, I hope he’s able to connect more with his siblings if he’s able to open up and show that he needs support too.

I’m excited to see more of Snape. He’s my favorite character, and it’s always a great moment in fics that don’t necessarily focus on him when he takes on a greater role than just sideline dungeon bat. I’m interested to see where his hedge magic journey takes him and Percy, and how their relationship develops.

And finally - the concept of hedge magic is so cool, it creates such a detailed and fascinating new aspect to the familiar world of Harry Potter. I love this underlying theme of learning about creatures and magic beyond a thoroughly wizard-centric perspective. Percy is such a perfect character to have at the forefront of this exploration—the way he solves typical problems from the canon stories feels extremely original in fanfiction. I’m thoroughly enjoying reading this, and look forward to future updates. I have a lot of hope since the most recent one was in April of this year. Happy writing, and thank you for sharing this story!
