hi, i was very surprised by this story, its the first unbiased thoughtful look at the way things most likely would play out in real life, by dumbledore taking a moment to think then opening up a discussion many different outcomes were opened up. fantastic thank you.

Dude, I wanted Harry to smack them down. Like yeah he got out of most of those by luck, that's true. But ask for help? Why in the hell would he even think of that? They left him with the Dursleys, where he'd probs been punished for asking for help. It was probs ingrained in him before he could speak full sentences that asking for help wasn't an option. His entire life, he'd been taught that nobody is coming to help you, you are alone, and so that's the way he lives. They're basically accusing him and blaming him for the products of growing up in an abusive household that they left him in. ANd the one time he went to McGonagall for help (no hate, she's a queen, but this has always bothered me) she shut him down before he'd got past his first sentence and didn't let him give further explanation or information before silencing him and sending him away, so she can't say anything about him being too vague or unclear. Bitch please you never even gave him a chance. Plus, that would've only further cemented that asking for help wasn't an option.
The whole not asking for help thing is not and never will be Harry's fault. He was abused and neglected for ten of the most formative years of his life and accusing him of being affected by that and that being his fault is victim blaming.
This is a long rant, but it made me really angry that they talked to him in such a way. Harry learned from the time he was a year old that no one was on his side and they're just proving it to him, and they don't even allow him to defend himself. Honestly, mature or not, Harry should've just said fuck you guys too and left, because they don't deserve his loyalty after treating him like that. They made the choice to leave him in an abusive household and now they're using it to cut him down and isolate him from both them and his friends.
All they're doing here is showing Harry that, just like always, there is no one in his corner. Why the fuck would he even think to ask them for help?

If they want to pick faults... Who decided to put a three headed giant dog behind a door with a simple alohomora? Who sended students to their house rooms making Hufflepuff and Slytherin in danger? who in second year decided to not close the school when the basilisk began to petrify students? or maybe how did Sirius Black managed to enter without Dumbledore notice or maybe if we are talking of 'what if it was not a good guy?" Who decided to put a werewolf as professor, and what could happened if Severus Snape did not intrude or forgot to give the potion to the 'dangerous werewolf'? And should we talk about Alastor Moody and how Dumbledore great friend not noticed him? Or how he let him teach the unforgivable? Maybe how they decided to continue the Tri-Wizard tournament with Harry, or kidnap Ron, Hermione and Gabrielle Delacour and put them in a lake in february. Or how mature is the potion professor that is always egging the Gryffindor and Harry Potter, is he really that mature?

Oh, and let's not forget how mature is Molly Weasley breaching the statue of secrecy shouting about muggles, or how Dumbledore could had closed the passage out of the castle in the tree and so Sirius Black could had not enter. That is very mature and wise decisions... And of course the great Albus Dumbledore that know everything, put baby Harry in November like a bottle of milk and with abusive muggles. Or maybe how wise was to put traps that a first year could pass.

Was this just a Harry bashing story? all that he did made a whole lot of sense for an abused child. the mistrust and really? he was a child but what... the very next year Dumbledore takes him on a horcrux hunt but he's still not a part of the order. then he goes with Ron and Hermione, still not a part of the order and finishes the war.

All of the above is irrelevant in the face of the fact that whether they like it or not, Harry is at the DEAD CENTER of the war with Voldemort- he is in fact the linchpin of it- and keeping him ignorant and "innocent" damnear got him KILLED.

This whole time I was hoping Harry would just say yeah ight either im in the order or outta Britain your choice.

i think this would have been good as a longer fic looking at the changes from now on. i would think if i was harry i would tell them all to go screw them selfs and deel with voldemort. this fic is good but misses the fact that they want harry to do the job in the end. all i can think after is how much more could be done.

A better response from Harry would be "You know, you're all right. I'm not going to do anything to help anyone else anymore. I'll leave it all up to you and just as soon as I turn 17 I'll get the bloody hell out off this country. Let you finish losing the war you had already lost in '81." and leave. Probably followed up by "Harmione, get your parents out of the country just as fast as you can. Voldermort just won the war and he'll kill all the muggleborns and their families. As the professors all said, I can't do anything about it, after all, I'll never catch up with the experience of 60 year olds and that's what I and I alone would have to do to be taken seriously."

If dementors were for Harry's safety, then what were they doing in the quiditch match and in the hogwarts express?
