Vistani curses are not pleasant, as you know. I remember Horg from the book Mordenheim slowly rotting away over a period of hours due to the Mishamel curse...

James nearly got himself a wife by accident! Oh, you know Mirri wouldn't allow that! She's not one to share her kitten with anybody. Which is good, because he's utterly devoted to her, (and Jacqueline Renier, but in a different way). He's a good man.

Street Samurai Werecat James Firecat!

Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Zhukata didn't love his people...

The world is out to get Fenrir. At least, the 'divine' part of it.

Even though I whine and complain sometimes about how Monster Lives Matter, I do love your stories...
Razell chapter 18 . 4/11/2018
I generally dislike Lawful Good, being something of a Devil's Advocate with regards to monsters, aberrations and other 'undesirable' or 'unnatural' creatures. I know I've complained a lot about monsters, fey, etc... being killed and the morality of it all. Does concern over the morality of killing monsters/aberrations/non-humans make me Lawful? Is it a form of Neutrality?

I hadn't considered the fact that none of the party are Lawful, aside from the fact than none are Lawful Good. If they were Lawful Good, they probably wouldn't tolerate Mirri. Or James, depending on how zealous they were...

I like the parallels between Malistroi and Fenrir, and the differences. Malistroi is naturally a force of corruption and destruction, Fenrir is not. Both want revenge, but Fenrir only wants revenge on ones who betrayed him, Malistroi wants everyone to suffer. It's very interesting.

Careful you don't become G'Henna's new darklord Alex. That would suck for you on so many levels. I don't even want to THINK of what the Dark Powers would come up with as your chain... Okay, that's kind of a lie. I want to, but I'm not going to.

All told, this was a very satisfying epilogue. Now I only wonder where the Mists will lead our heroes next.
Razell chapter 17 . 10/2/2017
I was laughing through most of this. Alexander really is a born showman, and Fenrir has incomparable wit.

James is still faithful, to his goddess and his Grand Dame. He didn't ask for anything for himself, just to have Bastet's statue repaired and repainted. And he still adores Jacqueline Renier. She's really making a fortune out of James' adventures and the loot he sends her, isn't she?
'Have you heard the Good Word of Fenrir the Chained Wolf?' Of course Alexander would insist that be included in his letter...

Two new statues of Bastet, to make three, and three statues of Kali. But Fenrir's must always be bigger.

So Yagno must make amends by returning the surviving Mongrelmen to human form. He should also be required to start soup kitchens or orphanages or something similar. Petchko is Vistani again! And he's sort of Yagno's guide to dealing with and helping the Mongrelmen.

I'm not surprised some people just dumped their offerings on the ground like that instead of taking them home to eat. Unlearning years and years absolute religious law takes time. And, as you mentioned, The Dark Powers probably tailor-made them to be religious zealots. Hopefully, not too many more will starve before they realize those days are over.

Fenrir and Tyr. The Fates are as cruel as many of the gods, but at least part of Fenrir is free, running wild in a world without gods. A world where he's top dog, pun intended. That coward Odin can go blind himself, he'll never be half as great as Fenrir. I do hope Fenrir chews him thoroughly before swallowing. And I think Tyr agrees with me.

I have a feeling scribes are already writing the tale of how Great Fenrir, the Chained Wolf, devoured Zhakata the Devourer and defeated the fiend Malistroi in a single night!

No more bells! And enough G'hennan liquor to sate an army! Alex is living the dream.

Now that was an amazing reveal/pay-off! I had actually forgotten all about that comment back in book one. More fool me for that. Though, talking about the Norse gods in regards to D&D in general, there are already some issues with the game mechanics when compared to the actual lore. Namely that, in D&D, deities can't exactly die whereas the Norse pantheon partly cheats mortality through consuming magical fruit, but are still killable. Case in point: ALL OF RAGNAROK! In order for the lore to fit the game mechanics the whole pantheon SHOULD be classified as quasi-deities which may still be slain although they do not age and have no need for food, drink, or sleep. They can if the feel like it, but derive no benefit from it. I don't know how the Dark Powers restrictions for interference applies to quasi-deities, but it probably doesn't matter since - as you've made abundantly clear in your notes- Fenrir isn't really a deity. He's simply the penultimate wolf...who may or may not have become a deity of some sort later on in life. I don't know and so can't draw any conclusions one way or the other.

Man, this was a fun chapter to read. Definitely worth the wait.
Razell chapter 16 . 9/21/2017
'You...you...you hurt me...'
'That's rather the point of fighting.'
Malistroi didn't have a chance. For a Big, Bad Fiend he had no tolerance for pain or any real courage when actually faced with an opponent who could fight back.

I like your ending better than any in the scenario, Fenrir using his spit to heal everyone was great. I wonder why it didn't turn the Beastmen human again, though? It turned them back from the creature's Malistroi made them, but not into humans...

The idea is familiar to me for some reason. I've read about Vampire saliva closing their victim's wounds, but it seems like I read something similar about Werewolves, probably in fanfiction for 'Teen Wolf' or something... Not that Fenrir is a Werewolf, of course. It just seems familiar.

Fenrir. No wonder he dislike the idea of deities so much, after what what the gods did to him. Sure, he bit off what's-his-name's hand, but he was still trapped... He got Odin back in the end, though.

His theology was great too, no more letting people starve or judging/punishing each other over differences in understanding doctrine. If Yagno really changes, would that send G'Henna back to wherever it came from?
I thought he'd make some sort of rules about respecting actual wolves, of course, the story's not quite finished. And it would seem implied, anyway. What about the wolf pack Alexander was leading? Are they alive?

Like I said, I really enjoyed this.
Reiko x 3 chapter 15 . 8/29/2017
I always enjoy the end commentary chapters... Looking forward to it and to the finale of this tale!
Razell chapter 15 . 8/27/2017
It's ironic that Alex will have to try to build up the people's faith in a 'god' he knows to be false, but Cal is going to have an even worse time, I think. For all of their genius, Lamordians are almost always closed-minded towards anything beyond the range of known science. And he knows Zhakata is not only a lie, but a lie that's killed countless people by starvation and violence. But I'm sure he'll put on a good show, he is his father's son, after all.

I'm sure James has some bardic spells that can increase people's devotion, so that should help.

I remember the various possible 'good' endings to this adventure from the book, so I look forward to seeing which you will choose.
Reiko x 3 chapter 14 . 7/31/2017
Well...that happened. Not even going to speculate on what that thing was as I have no clue. Just that it was a supernatural creature and it was very, very angry.
Razell chapter 14 . 7/30/2017
I wonder if it could feed off of the energy of the animate? One less thing to worry about, though it would make the demon a measure stronger. But What's-his-Name, (I can't quite remember, and it would be a spoiler anyway), hurt The Pack. NO ONE hurts or kills Pack without suffering terrible retribution, even if they were somewhat temporary members.

And he does a lot worse, if this follows the canon adventure.

I doubt Yagno will be happy to see them again. But he'll be even less happy to see a certain fiend he thought locked away.

Bolsh's actions didn't surprise me in the least. His appearance in the temple did, but not his actions.
Reiko x 3 chapter 13 . 7/5/2017
I enjoyed it! I always enjoy dungeon crawls, though. I play enough table-top games and RPG style video games to be a firm believer in the adventurer's credo. If it moves, and lives in a dungeon...kill it! If it doesn't move, but looks like it once was capable of moving...kill it again just to be sure! If it looks like it might potentially be valuable or is just plain interesting looking and is NOT cursed...loot it! If said valuable or interesting thing is nailed down...pry it free! I'm sure there are more tenets to the credo, but I don't care to remember them right now. I've listed the important ones. Well, aside from the ones relating to traps and trapmakers being pure evil.
Razell chapter 13 . 6/26/2017
'Let's see a little vigor mortis!' Great line. I also liked the attack by the animated, possessed carriage.

It's best to avoid cursed blades. If they've been through the adventure yet, they should remember the Fang of the Nosferatu... And a possessed sword, Ebonbane, was the Dark Lord of Shadowborn Manor. There are other evil blades, too.

Once again, I must play the monster's advocate. 'Too ugly to live." Really? It seems like chopping up harmless, non threatening creatures just because they're hideous would be reason for a Powers Check.
Reiko x 3 chapter 12 . 5/20/2017
Yeah, this group of heroes is very good at giving darklords headaches. Best of all, they don't wake up in the morning and think "I feel like thwarting Azalin's schemes today." They're just minding their own business before the Mists come in and whisk them away to the domain of whatever darklord the Dark Powers feel like irritating that week. And, if they are at all capable of laughter, I can imagine them snickering with glee at some of the results.

Also, I enjoyed Cal's little religious debate if only because I enjoy engaging in such things myself. And the whole faith around the Clockmaker. That was interesting. Is that canon lore for Ravenloft? I don't remember reading about it in the sourcebook PDFs I have downloaded.
Razell chapter 12 . 5/16/2017
I suspected that those were carnivorous/omnivorous bovines. The way you described their teeth, and the way they attacked were pretty uncharacteristic of your average cow. In a land like G'Henna, it's best to have options. Such animals could survive so much better than those depending solely on plants.

'If you want to be loved, get a dog. Wolves only love their own.' Great line.

Yes, the party has definitely been through the gears.

It's sad but realistic that most of the people seem to believe that the evil in the church is from someone undermining Yagno, and not Yagno himself. They want to believe that he is truly a holy man being influenced by bad advisors. They probably can't comprehend that Yagno, and much less the church itself, could be flawed in any way.
