Reviews for The Scientist's Lament
oompadearest chapter 28 . 8/24
even though i think this story escalated EXTREMELY quickly, i really like the way it's going! mcgonagall is one of my favorite characters in the series, and i really think you're doing her characterization justice. i'm glad she was the first one to figure their circumstances out. edward and ollivander's friendship never fails to make me grin, and while catching up with this story i annoyed my brother with my laughter. however, a minor critique- using the sentence structure "He did a _,ed aif that makes sense) over and over makes it lose some of its poetic meaning. typically, i've only really seen it applied to artistic/drabble pieces, and in times of great emotion, when the narration is choppy because the characters aren't thinking coherently. keep up the great work! i look forward to the next update!

Hello !
I really enjoyed my reading and I can't wait for the teacher tournament :)
I learned English and German at school (I'm French), but I had very few occasion to train my German since I stoped learning ten years ago. I'm so used to English (in series, books or scientific papers) that I think in English a lot but it was funny to read some German words in your story, to remember them (I was so proud) and then to be unable to find the equivalent in English for a couple of minutes even for a very common word. It happened a couple of times and I'm glad I haven't completely forgotten my German.
About Ravenclaws, I agree they are not hard workers as Hufflepuffs, but they do value knowledge a lot. Except that the knowledge that they are interested in is not necesseraly the same they seek in class. I like to imagine some Ravenclaws with bad grades because they are too much focused on a subject complely irrelevant for their classes, like dragons, and spent all their time studing it instead of doing their homeworks. I think Professor Binns was a Ravenclaw too much obsessed with goblin revolutions so he has a massive knowledge about it and loves to talk a lot about it. Or they love to discover all sorts of new things but their interest can't be kept on the same subject very long. That's why I think Luna totally have her place in Ravenclaw because she learns things in her own way, likes to develop knowledge on strange creatures and is very open-minded and receptive about her environment.
I would definitely sort Ed in Gryffondor too. He is one of the bravest character I know. He never gives up, even when the situation is very dire or when he is afraid.
Good writing !

Nice.
sorcerousfang chapter 28 . 7/21
This is brilliant! I really enjoy how you've brought Ed and Al into the world of HP.
LastGraveDigger chapter 28 . 7/18
Binged your tale in 2 days. Amazing so far the best hp fma x over. Hope you kep updating till you finish it. Best of luck!
LastGraveDigger chapter 12 . 7/18
As a german I am loving your story but feel the need to mention that during tge 90s the german Currency was the Deutche Mark and Euro only came to be at 1999 2 years after Harry Potter ended.
Grilled Cheese chapter 28 . 7/18
I'm delighted at the whole bit about the coded recipe, it was funny reading Ed's and Snape's reactions to it! I can only imagine what horrible things Al put in it to describe Dumbledore's hand
Stall chapter 28 . 7/17
I'm of the opinion Ed could cause the sorting hat to enter a mental stall when trying to sort him. He drips bravery like a leaky tanker, Cunning is his middle name, he's intelligent and wise beyond his years, and loyalty to his loved ones is his life's story.

I'd personally put him in Hufflepuff, but I think most FMA characters in the core Amestrian cast fall there as well being brothers in arms military types. Ling and Mei lean Slytherin I think, and the sins to varying degrees as well. Sheska would be Ravenclaw and Gen. Armstrong full Slytherin if you believe she fully abides by her survival of the fittest doctrine.

Relative to FMA's cast he's more a gryffindor though, definitely foolhardy enough.

Thanks for another chapter.
wereallmadherealice chapter 28 . 7/15
This is really well written! Im glad i found it and im even more glad that its still updating! Love your characterizations
TrenchcoatMan chapter 28 . 7/14
I quite approve of Ed's resolution to go to better equipped minds. it's the sensible option, One Dumbledore refuses to do.

I'd love to actually see the letters between Ed and Bill... and I do mean letters. I have a feeling those two will get along quite well.

So, do you plan on having Ginny and Harry hook up by the end of this year, or soon. If Ed sees it, it must be true.

I completely agree with your assessment of Ravenclaws. I do think that they're smart, but I feel like the appearance of being smart is sometimes too important to them. Look at the password to their room. A freakin riddle, totally uncessary.

I stick with my house, Slytherin.

I want to put Ed in Ravenclaw though, but I think he'd do well as a Slytherin as well. He meets thhe core tenants after all.

Al though... thats a hard choice. He's both equal parts Puff and Claw

YumiStar chapter 28 . 7/13
I kinda wanna know what u holy thing Al came up with for pie, that even Snape was disgusted.
Kora chapter 27 . 7/12
This book is so amazing! I love the way you portray the characters, and miraculously, (unlike some FMA x HP crossovers I've read) It has a very believable plot. I really can't wait to see how this continues!
SassnessOverlord chapter 27 . 7/7
Thevway yoy write Al is amazing. He is so smart. Ed's way would never work with Dumbledore
