Yeah I’m going to need some immediate Ben and Jerry’s therapy after that.
It was incredibly well written and I’m legit weeping rn.
Eric the Looney chapter 15 . 4/27/2017
Huh. This story wasn't nearly as popular as your other stories. Weird. I still think it was solid.

Anyways, wrap up. So as a continuation of your YJ universe, this is a serious turning point for the League. Not quite on par with it's founding or with it truly discovering the existence of the Light, but important nonetheless. For so long, its lone casualty that stayed dead was Ted Kord. Most of the rest came back, turned out to be a mole, was taken over by another being but doesn't count as dead that way. But J'onn J'onzz was one of the 7 founders. And when a founder goes down, that's when an organization starts getting a bit existential. And since Superman came back, J'onn's death is going to cast a longer shadow on their future by comparison.

And while no others were infected with a curse, that's the easy part. The hard part is saying goodbye to Mars's favorite son. A state funeral, and intergalactic streaming so the league can say goodbye as well. It was a somber affair, a sad affair, but also an affair that shows how far the leagues come in the world. They've got a state enshrinement for one of their heroes. And that's an awesome honor. And in time, the 3 travelers had to say goodbye. Walking away sad, weeping for the loss of a father figure.

And for their part, despite The Dark Knight wanting information on this happening, the 3 were emotionally drained and needed rest before the wake for the Martian Manhunter. So they collapsed back at the Tower. However, there was one last closing for them to know about. J'onn's last present to Conner...was his rings. The rings he held for so long after his immediate family perished to a madman's dreams. And in reading, Conner simply told M'gann, "He knew. He knew he might not come back." To know that he'd gone to his death willingly like that? It got M'gann one last time. And so, the other super family rested. Living in the legacy of their Uncle J'onn. His heroism and love. His last testimony via his rings on all he has done for his family. They would see it someday, and though there is sadness now, there will be acceptance in the future. Remembering the good times, and honoring his heroic memory.

Like I said, I can't predict what the future holds for the super couple, but I do know that this is going to be an important event for Carter. A turning point in his youth if you will. A serious changes for him, and understanding both death and evil as a personal force.

Also, the Light's gotta be a bit jealous. All their twisting turning and discrediting, and it was some two bit punk from another planet that actually dealt a serious blow to the league's roster.

Whatever the case, the end. A fine tribute story to the super martian family you've created, and a loving sendoff to the martian manhunter. Thanks, and I'll see you in the next journey. As Greg always says, NEVER the end.

I truly love the story but I have a request. For another story can you do base it off of Infinite Crisis?

Ah so Carter is indeed immune to the Curse. Too bad...false god

Wow! So seeing the full extent of Conner's power! LOL clothing damage again!

Surprising and sad about J'onn :-(

"But the moment you came after J'onn, the moment you targeted my wife, the moment you threatened my son, you dug your own grave." Oh my goshhh, Conner really has balls of steal loll
MikeRedJurassic10 chapter 14 . 4/18/2017
I was thinking if you made Conner die, in front of his wife and son, you have guts and balls of steel. This was still great overall! Can't wait for the next chapter!

"It's ... over," I said, wiping away the tears.

Happy Easter to you too. Although...given what's just happened, I'm not too happy. Oh not from the content, since this does provide a suitably dramatic ending for the story you've created. I'm just...not happy right now that we have to say goodbye already. To several things.

Let's start...with the obvious. This is what I like to call the point of no return with the universe you've created. Greg might've tried to do it when he did the whole death of Wally in season 2, but they you undid it thanks to teleportation manipulation. You see, the point of no return for a series has be where something so big, so dramatic happens that you can't back away from what you've done any longer. And, let's face it. The light getting cut down was dramatic, but there will always be other supervillains to face, other revelations to adjust to. But when you off a hero for realsies, then you know your universe is about to feel a little darker and a lot less tied to its "host".

In some ways, it's kinda funny. The Martian Manhunter did have significant involvement through many parts of Young Justice, but he always teetered just on the edge of significance. Not as directly involved as Batman, not as emotionally available like Black Canaray, not as gung ho as Captain Marvel, and certainly not as high up in the league structure as say...Superman. No, he was number 7. The last of the original 7 founders of the league. Steadfast but flexible. A teacher and a bringer of new challenges. A cultural guide for mars, a pawn in the light's game. He was there to advise and assist. And now that we give him a day in the limelight, it turns out to be his swan song. And that's why I'm most not happy about this. He was getting his due with a story for him, and now it's also his end.

But at the same time, it's an oddly poetic way for him to go. As he was an outsider in many regards, dying fighting one of his demons from his past? Makes for an oddly fitting bookend. A shame he couldn't finish what he started, but perhaps that's also why he had to go. The times are changing, and it took an anchor rather than an outsider to finish things.

Now, let's talk about the chapter itself. So one positive about Ma'al's ego is that he's not very good at getting true allies, so in the end, he got 5 people fighting him at once. M'gann, J'onn, Cy'an, Conner and Carter all got a chance to get a crack at him. In Carter's case, I get the feeling that his martian head shields, mixed with kryptonian will was what helped him resist many of the mind games, or just that Ma'al wasn't targeting him. Hence his confused look of, "Mom, that's just a rock."

There was rage, anger, scoffing. But at least we now get some idea of what the curse really is: illusions so real they're indistinguishable from reality. Hence a fire strike, or a knockdown. Going all out on the pawn and the arch enemy.

I can see that you did your best to give Cy'an our sympathy, especially with her finally joining the final battle on the side of justice. In a way I do think it's well thought out how to do it, but my personal problem is that too many reviewers pulled a "harley quinn" too quickly on her, so I couldn't quite get invested the same way. That being said, I like that you took her in a different direction from Harley, even dying trying for her revenge, but all she ever wanted was to be loved. Kinda...sad in some ways. Especially since she got to witness the final goodbye.

And Ma'al really gave the family a run for their money. But it's also here that Conner was forced to take extreme measures. Long has Conner been much like Superman in many things. But today, today he takes a step that supes has never needed to take...usually. Depending on what you say happened in YJ. He willingly tried to take the life of a sentient being. In defense of good, to fulfill his vow, he caused a super explosion that took Ma'al down. To elbows and 1 leg.

But Ma'al would not give Conner the satisfaction of winning in this way. No, he pulled a Joker on him. Doing the old self neck snap to end his shame and spite his enemy. You should have killed me indeed. Aaaand now you're dead.

And he was right. He killed one of M'gann's father figures. And more importantly, Carter is going to remember today. For something as traumatic as this? Mom being kidnapped, dad communication problems on the mission, threats of violence, beginning to get a sense of his own power, near death experiences? His first experience with Death? If we ever wanted to get the start of a villain or of an anti hero, this could definitely count as the first scars to lead Carter on that path. It will force him to grow up much faster, and though it wasn't a total disaster like Batman, it could still easily shape him in the years to come.

I also got...a little choked up about seeing the end of a great hero like this. A sad goodbye first to his surrogate daughter, then to his grandnephew, and finally promising one final thing to Conner when the bioship regenerates. A slow, painful death. But at least he got some parting words before he went.

Conner was in pain, his kryptonian physiology not helping the fact that his human side still needs oxygen. Which he doesn't have anymore. But, thankfully, rescue came. And like in that other fic you wrote that's noncanon, what they all needed was a big hug together before the fallout.

The main thrust is over, but the story has a bit more to tell. No more anniversary talk, it will be a funeral instead. No more celebrations, it will be a debriefing on what happened up there. No more games with Carter, now he'll need child counseling to help him through. No more league glory. Now there will be mourning for their first big member to fall in the line of duty. Something like this is way too big to sweep under the rug compared to say...ted kord's death. No, I'm sorry Captain Atom, but I'm afraid you can't cover up that MM wasn't immortal from something as definitive as this.

See you next chapter. Cause I get the feeling this story's almost over.
Eric the Looney chapter 13 . 4/15/2017
Oh Connor. It seems you've fallen prey to the greatest flaw The Team ever has to face on missions like this: being emotionally compromised. And now your mind will suffer for it. the martian manhunters's mind shields has prevented mush for now, but now comes the mind games. Tricking you to thinking that things are that aren't. Orr as I like to call it, Matrix Syndrome.

What I do like about this part though was that it shows that Conner is really outside his depth on this mission. While effective at knocking guards around, he...runs into trouble with Cy'an messing around with him. Thankfully, thanks to his sincerity, Cy'an, despite being a good tester, doesn't always have good acting, and one of her quirks came out. And that got them knowing about what's really happening. It also seems here that J'onn took the time to pull a talk time (season 2 episode 16 or Psimon's 2nd appearance comes to mind for this) with Cy'an. Demonstrate what he knows, break her down a little in her mind to know the truth. And as such, wore her out a bit. Whether her own plans are in motion now or not, he shook her up bad! And thanks to both Conner and M'gann's memories, Cy'an now knows what she's been missing all this time. The true love, the sacrifice, the deep affection and care. All these are now known, so you better have time to think about what you want before it's too late.

And so, battle is joined. Get your mind up Conner. Cause there's not really Kryptonite! It's all in your head!
