Allllllllrighty, that was immensely enjoyable. The following things made me laugh out loud:

[Alfred realizing he doesn't get fancy objects like Yao and Arthur] "'Hey, no fair- what do I get?' 'The queen,' Yao responded"

[Peter about Arthur] "Yeah, that's why his eyebrows are so big. They're full of secrets."

[Alfred] "I don't trust horses. They're too tall and pretend to care about your feelings."

And of course, pretty much everything with the forest of honesty, Yao, and especially Lovino. A work on them, really. (Also, I'm noticing a theme of siblings of face cards as aces - so...Mattie might be alive, yes? My best guess for Ace of Diamonds is Monaco, but I'm curious about who it'll end up being.)

You have an excellent form of worldbuilding, one which makes me remember all the things I enjoyed about the cardverse: your descriptions of the castle settings and invoking of cities and forests and other fantastical places, the dynamic between Arthur's and Alfred's "meant to be" and "I choose you" relationship (this coming from someone who hasn't read USUK in years), the way magic integrates itself so smoothly with its own rules that don't prevent political intrigue but help along its downfall... Yup, I'm pretty dang excited that this story exists. I'm so glad to have found it on a night where my anxiety was acting up, because by the end of the chapter I was smiling pretty damn hard.
