Reviews for Mr Darcy's Vow
cb chapter 29 . 8/9
I think I've left a review on another one of your stories, but in case I haven't, I just want to say that I absolutely adore your writing. You bring the characters to life in a way that I haven't seen many other writers do. I love love love how rapid fire and real your dialogue is. Thank you for sharing!
Guest chapter 30 . 5/24
I know from your author's notes that you know this, but the story was too long. It's a great premise and excellent writing, I loved the first half, loved Darcy and loved the rivalry between Caroline and Elizabeth. But then came about 20 chapters of pain that was so pointless because those two accomplished nothing besides hurting themselves and each other. Eventually this story just hurt to read and I only wanted it to end. His "I can't marry her because anything I want for myself must be evil" was bad enough, but I really hate when writers have Elizabeth reject Darcy for the sole reason that she thinks she knows what's best for him and that what's best is a lonely and unhappy life. It's too common a trope.

I already knew I was a wimp for angst but I'm a fan of your other work so I hoped the good parts would make up for it. In the first half that was true, but certainly not the second half. Still, I thank you sincerely for sharing your creativity for free on this site for us when you don't have to. I appreciate your talent even if this particular story wasn't for me.
babythor chapter 4 . 3/22
I didn’t find Lizzy’s reaction to Darcy’s insult very realistic, and I wanted to offer my perspective. Doubt is an emotional lobster trap. For women, we all like to pretend there isn’t some tiny part of us that’s afraid to believe we’re as pretty as our mommas said we are. Mrs Bennet has had a lot to say about Lizzy’s beauty, and, with repetition, the words “not AS pretty as Jane or Lydia” start to sound like “not pretty ENOUGH.” Everyone likes to imagine having a magical moment of being singled out in a crowd for some reason or another. This is Lizzy’s moment!... and Mr Darcy just confirmed all the worst things she’s ever thought about herself. Even someone as vain as Lydia would feel that sting, however briefly, before she could begin to reassure herself otherwise. I would have preferred Lizzy have her resentment follow at least a second of feeling wounded and exposed. Lizzy comes across shallow and offended for not being called pretty, rather than resentful that this stranger just managed to land a hit right where she was vulnerable.
