Reviews for Love in the Time of Tropics
SceptileBlade chapter 23 . 5/14
Damn, I was thinking about jt, and I think I got it. Ash wants to be a Pokémon Master because he loves Pokémon, and he wants to be good at everything surrounding the thing he loves, and that's why he protected Iki Town too. They were harming the people and Pokémon that live there, and not helping them would gnaw at his fundamental principles. There's no point in being a Pokémon master if you can't save some Pokémon.
26hunter chapter 1 . 12/6/2019
The only thing that could have made me laugh even more during the birthday would be Bonnie and Max arguing, though you seem to have hinted at them battling in the future as trainers in last fics epilogue. I half expected Barry to come out of nowhere and threaten to fine ash, I wasn’t surprised by the absence of Trip but Paul seemed like he might’ve shown. Also time for a rant: ARRRGGGGG WHY DOESNT ANYONE LET ASH MAKE SMART DECISIONS AS A TRAINER, THE SHOW ONLY MAKES HIM LEAVE HIS ACES BEHIND SO THEY CAN MARKET THE NEW MONS BUT YOU DONT NEED TO MARKET ANYTHING BECAUSE IM ALREADY ADDICTED TO YOUR FIC AHHHHHHHHHHH. Sorry I get really passionate about that, regardless if you don’t bring his aces back during the inevitable Lanikila conference I will not cease to rant. I’m surprised Clemont is allowed to leave the gym for so long considering you use gym urgency as your reasoning for writing Korrina and Misty out. Also reading when I am it will be hard suspending my disbelief as you’ll probably have ash catch mons he didn’t actually catch in Alola, and while Sun and Moon wasn’t my favourite series I still loved all of Ash’s new friends and Pokémon and I hope you write those characters as fun as they were written in the anime, but hopefully less goofy because when it comes to Alola Ash and now PM2019 Ash and Gou, Iris actually has an excuse to use her infamous catchphrase. Anyway on to reading!

Much better than the first chapter. I felt like Ash was a lot more in character here. Keep up the good work!
Anonymous chapter 1 . 7/1/2019
"dear" and "rather" don't really sound like the kinds of things Dawn would say. Try using words like "kinda", or just anything more on the laid-back side. Same for Ash.
FlygonNick chapter 26 . 4/25/2019
Alright...Finally got around to doing this.

All in all, it's a treat to be able to delve back into this universe you've created here. Granted, this obviously felt like the first act of a trilogy since not a huge amount of super climactic things happened, like the in the original trilogy, but I'm alright with that.

Character arcs have been established, which was really interesting how you went about it. How do you make Ash and Serena and Clemont grow when they're already certified badasses? Have them question themselves and have internal struggles that make them truly grow as a person. I like that, and it's a good way to not have Ash be overpowered or have Serena sweep through the competition since they're so experienced.

I also like the additions to Sun and Serena's teams, and you've given them a good bit of personality as well, which is really good to see. Not enough stories do that, and it's great to see you expanding on that here. The battles and Trials in the story were fantastic so far, incorporating a Gym Battle and the Totem Battle into the same thing was interesting and I liked it.

The Alola characters were also very well done and all in-character. This is my second-favorite region, with Unova being the first, so I'm attached to these characters and am glad you did them justice. Lillie in particular was great and absolutely adorable, as expected. I wasn't really into her and Hau being shipped, especially considering how my own story is shaped up, but in the end I'm warming to the pairing and I'll be looking forward to seeing how you make it pay off. Guzma, Plumeria, and Team Skull were fantastic and hilarious, but I also enjoyed how you made the first two legitimate threats and dangerous, but not entirely evil. Gladion's expanded character and having him have a decent relationship with Ash was also a nice touch as well.

The Ultra Beast battle at the end was a great way to end the first story of this trilogy, with Ash learning how to harness Z-Moves and come in with the clutch win. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with Lusamine and so on.

On a final note, I will say that I absolutely despise the character Keoni, and given that I'm on like chapter 8 of the next story, I can say that you made him very well, since I'm sure that's what he's there for. But that's really my only negative about the story so far, and that's just because the character is good at what he does.

Fantastic read, all in all. Sorry about how long it took me to get around to reading again, but I'm back on board and looking forward to more.

Stay awesome.

Hey Epicocity, I've been reading this series for a week, and I would like to have a clarification. Why didn't Serena 's Braixen evolve during the last book? She got a helluva lot of exp during the course of the book, and she evolved from Fennekin rather easily in the anime. So maybe you made her evolve in the later arcs, and I would have to get to them to know that, but I think that should have happened by now. I don't like spoilers, but can you tell me about that? That's all, anyway.

Ooobserver chapter 26 . 12/7/2017
And so ends the first. A costly bedlam in any sense, but there was much gained from Heahea's chaotic events. The potential threat level of Ultra Space has been laid out to the world, with everyone scrambling to figure out what the best move is. Meanwhile the legendary Pokemon act as they will, leaving ARC and the rest to merely follow. For now at least, the gang doesn't have to worry about it. They've all got a lot on their plates already, from Trials to Ceremonies.

It almost sucks just how much has to be done before I can move on to the second installment, but you definitely delivered a hell of an opening that I'll be eagerly to dive right back into. Be reading you soon!
Ooobserver chapter 25 . 12/7/2017
Suffice to say, that was freaking awesome! A grueling struggle both emotionally and physically for Ash, from confronting Gladion, to him and his team doing everything they can to bring down Nihilego, to finally giving us the successful Z-move we were all waiting for him to execute. Heck of a way to send off part one. Time for the aftermath.
Ooobserver chapter 24 . 12/7/2017
In a crisis situation you can always count on the Kalos crew to jump in without looking back. Each of them has shown remarkable strides throughout the course of world-shaking events and this chapter of panic surely exemplified the majority of that development.

You know, at some point soon, I'm rereading Teamwork. Going back to see the roots of it all sounds so tempting.
Ooobserver chapter 23 . 12/6/2017
Mm, I suppose I saw the loss, at least once I started reading in a little. Something about the atmosphere I guess. It did allow a very meaningful line of thought from the previous trilogy to surface once again, which no doubt relates to Serena's current goal. It certainly made me think. A good loss is how I'd say you wrote it.

And no, I wasn't expecting an Ultra Hole tearing right over the city in full view of not just the main characters, as you've clearly been smart to remove that particular trope. If anything it makes me wonder how the response to it will affect the last three chapters.
Ooobserver chapter 22 . 12/6/2017
Meeting up with Maka earlier than expected, Brionne's evolution, and some really foreboding signs from seemingly nowhere. All great things for a transition, yet subtle enough to make you wonder just how much is going on around here. Lots to think about; I hope I can keep it all in mind as we progress.
Ooobserver chapter 21 . 12/6/2017
Whoo, that was a dizzying double battle! Even if it wasn't the most daunting it still held high-grade suspense and even more impressive teamwork from the boys. Speaking of, I do enjoy seeing a Passimian. It's one pokemon I never got very familiar with in the game, so seeing what it can do with Ash will be quite the sight I'm sure.

I suppose now everyone with significant authority is catching on to the coming storm over Alola. All is converging slowly, whether they know it or not, and it's only the first part of the trilogy. As a side note, I do hope that if the gang encounters Tapu Lele she's far less of a... psycho, than in the anime.

But moving on, we get the next Ceremony! Feels like it's been forever, but nows the time for Serena to shine again! And of course, a much desire appearance by the most beloved of aspiring directors. Heck, toss in Keoni, it won't budge me at that point.
