I can honestly say that I was not expecting that ending. I got to the last line break, turned away to do something, and thought "Dean is totally gonna just come back to life." And then... that ending kind of broke my heart. (Not that I'm complaining. I LOVE those kinds of stories.)

Well. I don't normally read AUs, particularly death fics, but I will certainly applaud the excellent way you've written Sam and Benny's prickly relationship. The chief-captain thing was awesome!
