Ha, ha, ha, I love your disclaimer at the top of the story. My proportions to the series would be 89% canon coai and 11% murder plot (I do love a ‘good’ murder case more often than not, so).
Here I am reading…doing good on my promise to review every coai fic you’ve written. What better way to start than with your first story ever (at least it is here in FF) so let’s begin!

First off, oh wow! I didn’t remember this one being SO GOOD, a big favorite no doubt! The first paragraph alone gave me a headache because of how well you describe the hospital room (I hate hospitals so the headache was a good reaction, don’t worry lol) it really feels like you’re in that room through the whole story, brilliant setting description!
Call me crazy but I like Shiho calling Shinichi a ‘Jackass’, it’s a nickname that just suits him, imo XD
The exchange that is the summary of the plot made me laugh.

"I was being a gentleman."

Her brows arch in disbelief, a meaningful look thrown his way. "Jeez, Kudo. You don't have to put
yourself between a bullet and me to prove that chivalry isn't dead yet."

This is the kind of back-and-forth I enjoy in their conversations, is funny and oddly intimate. Like, you can’t deliver your thoughts in such a dry manner with anyone else. And I don’t know how but no matter how livid Shiho gets at him (with good reason) there’s always that underlying worry, the sentiment that she cares about him so much more than she’s willing to show. You have to see it with squinting eyes but is there! I don’t know if that was your intention, or I just see it that way but it’s amazing.

God, I love their arguing. Especially the ‘platonic rescue’ part lol Shiho thinks that sputtering more sentences after will make Shinichi dismiss her slip of tongue but she didn’t count with him paying attention to her every word. Her covering her face and dying of embarrassment is the cherry on top XD I’m having so much funny reading this! Also Shinichi teasing her is funny here – he’s bedridden and badly wounded, he can totally get away with it and basks in that fact, or so he thinks…

I see it as endearing that all it takes is Shiho wanting to leave the room for his smugness to dissolve immediately. He definitely doesn’t want to be without her…which brings my favorite part.

From this phrase – "I… beg your pardon?" The boy ventures. Funny how a bullet can miss, yet she shoots straight to his heart every time. – Up until the end is just flawless!

You’ll probably get tired of reading me say this, but your understanding of these characters is unbelievable and so true to themselves. Like you get their dynamic perfectly and every time I read this kind of stories I picture it in my head like I’m watching an episode of the anime (voices and all) :D

Starting that, I'm cracking... LOL. To be honest, I'm not so fan of CoAi, but somehow, imagining their sarcasm(ing) in each other... that's the cute part
