aight, I have mixed feelings about this chapter/The overall treatment of stoick in any fanfic like this.

Queen dragon or not, the dragons attacked berk first. for generations the war against the dragons has gone on and Stoick was just the next to head up the line of leaders. When we first see toothless he destroys a tower WITH PEOPLE inside of it. But people pretend that didn't happen for whatever reason. Stoick had every right to be mad at hiccup (Disowning him was a bit too far, but people say shit in the heat of the moment that they don't mean, which is shown my how devastated stoick is just saying that), cause all he has ever known or been shown is dragons murdering people. And then how it looked like A dragon murdered his wife too? And that one wasn't even affected by the queen, that raid was from the kings cavern.

So while everyone makes stoick seem like a bad guy, consider the fact that Stoick has been doing what he was taught/told. protecting his own. and while he is a bad listener and didn't treat hiccup right, he honestly cared for his child and just wanted him safe. He didn't even want him near dragons for fear of losing hiccup like he lost valka.

I just really think people don't understand or try and see things from stoicks perspective. And it bothers me cause all he has done is make the choices he had to make to ensure his people survive

You know, these dragon lovers are just as narrow-minded and cruel to Vikings as they claim Vikings are to dragons.

Think about it this way: Vikings have a good reason to think dragons are mindless killing machines—because they ARE mindless killing machines during raids. They come for no reason, taking their supplies and their livestock, hurting family members and killing loved ones with cruel abandon. Vikings approach dragons with unhesitating hostility for a good reason. But they don’t care to look beyond that, WHY they do that—and the dragon lovers do the same. Only Hiccup and Valka did that, and Hiccup only did that due to the circumstances—why didn’t the Night Fury go straight for the kill? (Because he hasn’t got a good reason to think it wouldn’t!) And Valka never understood that dragons were so docile until Cloudjumper, and previously she just didn’t like bloodshed.

Point is, the dragon lovers don’t look past their noses. Just like Vikings. Idiot humans.

And you, author with the shitty formatting, is no different. Useless bashing. You say the Vikings don’t give Toothless enough credit, intelligence-wise—but DON’T they? They talk about the Night Fury as something not even worth fighting: it’s too fierce, too fast, too SMART. I think they suspect the Night Fury is extra smart, and extra cruel. But I digress. While you say they don’t give Toothless enough credit, YOU don’t give Stoick enough credit either, do you? He’s a single father to a son he doesn’t understand—who he TRIES to understand. His conversation with Gobber is enough proof for that. But he also runs a village alone without a wife to share the burden and his people are being killed and their resources are being raided regularly. Winter’s coming and they’ll starve if they don’t pick up the pace, which, by the way, is already plenty picked up, I should think. He’s stretched thin and he needs to rally together his people on top of everything. Movie!Stoick is a lot brighter than Book!Stoick, and even he realises HE should care more about his son than the laws of exile. Of course Movie!Stoick realises that, then!

It’s the same thing with Dumbledore, honestly: good people making hard choices, and petty, IDIOT people like you and your dragon lover characters judge them harshly when you haven’t even tasted a lick of their burden. Honestly!

And so you portray him like an idiot, and you make Gobber and Hiccup have a sort of bond, and you even make them use nicknames you picked from their one, probably one-in-a-hundred interaction like they meant something significant. Couldn’t you even come up with your own insults?

Maybe I‘ve said too much, but I reckon it’s a valuable lesson. Don’t be stupid. Don’t be like Olympian and her ragtag gang of (utterly UNFUNNY) morons.

PS: Your Toothless was very OOC. I reckon in the films he’s somewhat like a very bright cat, not a person, but for the sake of fanfiction, let’s say he IS intelligent like a person: I don’t think he’d be a Solemn Intellectual type of personality. C’mon, he’s a goofball! Creative, overzealous, child-like, and loyal. Thoughtful and entertaining. Not a “talk endlessly about the earth’s obvious roundness and the Vikings’ crippling stupidity, ahhahaha, such pitiful, inferior creatures!” personality like an undersized lizard with a superiority complex. C’mon.

I normally read these fics as some mind garbage, like, the equivallent of RIP vine on youtube or something. But I have suddenly found the most interesting and funny Watch the Movie for HTTYD I've come across! Please be super proud for making something semi-common fresh and interesting for me again! It's lovely, and I'll be sure to read the sequel, and check out your other works as well! Once I'm done here at least.
(Alsoalso, congrats on actually getting your format consistant between movie, thoughts, action, ect. Almost NONE pull it off without perhaps three mix-ups in a chapter)
