I just realised, if you made Irina into a love sick puppy and had Karasuma commit suicide, the Irina would do one of two things. Follow him (like Authur did with Gretel) or become a mindless robot, following the government's word to the T (like Kakashi after Sakumo commits suicide.) Hey, what if, the shinigami hand given Irina the option of killing herself to save her students and Irina would have followed through that elaborate plot... Irina as a Reaper... with Ikeda as her senior... and her having all her memories...

(Her death would be classified as death for a cause, right? )
