I feel like Riku should confront the Cheif about his fears and how he has been left in the Dark for so long as he's been consumed by fear. When his people wanted to go forward he refused and is basically sentencing his people to death and asking him what his friend would say about this causing him to lose it and unintentionally create and Heartless from his anger and grief.
