This is my first experience with Kancolle, and I'm very confused. The story is kind of fun though.

Wait, how old is Hachiman? Is he still in high school?

All I know about Kantai Collection is that it's about ship waifus. Still going to read this and enjoy it.

When the abyssal saw Hachiman and looked angry, my first thought was "Oh man, it'd be pretty hilarious if she thought he was an abyssal that went and got itself kidnapped."

Either way I'm looking forward to this, it's quite interesting.

Okay, two questions:

1. What's Yukino view on Patriotism and how does it contrast Hachiman.

2. How old is Hachiman? He's a officer in the military so my guess would be early 20s.

Your characterisation is perfect! If someone told me that this is an official work without any prior context I would totally believe 'em.
Also don't worry about consistent updates. Most of the stories that you mentioned having regular updates usually die out in the end and the author just stops updating altogether. So readers are more concerned with active stories rather than update frequencies.
Also this chapter was really amazing. Just reading the words made me feel like I was there with the characters. The stakes were really high this time and when Inazuma got hit it made my heart freeze. Thankfully nobody died...yet. I mean no matter how much I love angst stories I still always wish for a happy ending. And this chapter definitely fits the bill for that.
The only thing that I would say that I didn't like about this chapter was how much screentime Yukinoshita got in this chapter. It has nothing to do with your writing though. Its just that the ending of vol 14 has me straying away from her character for a while. Not that it was a bad ending. In fact I would go as far as to say that it was the perfect ending. its just that it was so perfect that it was also the most predictable ending. Even a person whose only read vol 1 could tell you that who Hikki was gonna end up with. And well a romcom as unique as OreGairu having such a predictable ending left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth. I'll probably get over it eventually.
Putting my personal preference regarding Yukinoshita aside, you really did nail her character though.
Also can't wait for Hayama to appear. He's my 3rd favourite OreGairu character after all. Can't wait for his and Hikki's ideologies to clash!
Anyway since you asked for shipgirl suggestions so I'm gonna give my own right now. But I strongly urge you to make the final decision entirely your own as I've seen this from experience that when readers are allowed to influence the direction in which a story progresses it usually goes to shit...fast.
Anyway for Hayama I suggest Yamato since a high profile ship would fit a high profile admiral like him.
As for Hikki I suggest Shimakaze for purely eye candy reasons only. I just really like her character design. ...And her outfits pretty lewd TBH.

PS most of the military jargon in this chapter flew right over my head but I still read through it since you went through the effort of researching about it. It truly felt like a military setting though so that's a win I guess

I was waiting for an update, and finally it came!
This chapter did not disappoint, Hachiman's was always a tactical genius, he can make use of limited resources to maximum effect possible, tho he will never sacrifice anyone. He's charismatic (in a way) if people get to know him even a little, that charisma is one of commanders greatest weapons.
Also the fluff/banter moments are greatly appreciated.

Amazing chapter.

They take quite a while, but the quality is worth the wait. I truly appreciate how much effort you seem to be putting in each chapter and the lore, the characters and their backstories,... I like characters like Hachiman, but they're also the sort of characters I don't think I can pull off writing a fanfiction about. They got such a unique voice of their own that I don't think I can replicate it very well.

You on the other hand are delivering fabulous work in that regard, so congratulations.

As for suggestions for ships. Uhm...I don't know about ships for other characters, but I personally think it might be interesting to see how Hachiman and Kaga interact with each other. Granted Kaga is an aircraft carrier, so hardly a little fish, but I personally think an aircaft carrier could suit Hachiman.

Of course if Kaga is too big of a fish then there are also light aircraft carriers. On the other hand you could head towards light and heavy cruisers or you could even snatch a submarine along. Depends on how Hachiman wants to fight.

I have to admit I don't know all the girls good enough to say which ones would work best with Hachiman.

I am curious to see what the next chapter shall bring. Hachiman scored a pretty massive victory considering the odds. I am betting that HQ will be pretty impressed with all of them.

With fate and kancolle elements in the story the possibilities just keep growing
