Reviews for A Mask for Master
FullMentalPanic chapter 1 . 5/28
Wonderfully conceived. It makes perfect sense that Anakin would learn to hide himself and project what he needs to survive, and how it would seem like the most complete form of slavery to dictate his thoughts to conform to the Jedi religion/philosophy. This fits so well into the canon story while giving it more layers. It even gives a while other perspective on Anakin killing all the Jedi kids after he talks about them being stolen from their homes as babies. You very expertly point out all the flaws in Qui-gon's approach and one of the most chilling is the note about him freeing Anakin because he's valuable. That's absolutely true, and as official authority figures, both Padme and Qui-gon have a responsibility to act when the law is broken, and neither of them take definitive action about the slavery on Tatooine. Fantastic character development for Anakin and his mom, and very on point analysis about aspects of slavery in the Jedi order.
Chemnerd263 chapter 1 . 5/17
This is really sad. I've thought of the idea that Anakin never stopped being a slave before, but this is the hardest it has punched me in the gut.
sam chapter 1 . 11/25/2019
this was really fascinating to read
SnowflakesandMozart chapter 1 . 7/10/2019
This was a punch to the gut. So sad!
BadgeryFox chapter 1 . 12/9/2018
This is actually extremely plausible. Great idea!
jfcwtfusernames chapter 1 . 8/23/2018
God damn! This story is begging for more chapters!
ChronoMitsurugi chapter 1 . 8/3/2018
*shivers* chilling
But brilliant. I love it.
Thank you for sharing this. It is fantastic.
Difdi chapter 1 . 6/5/2018
The problem is a linguistic one. Mastery is complete control of something. A Master of slaves has contol of others. A maste of a skill has complete control of ability in a skill. But a Master in the Jedi/monastic meaning of the word is one who has control of self. Anakin's problem is he doesn't realize what the word Master means.
Delathen chapter 1 . 4/19/2018
Darn... I really, really want to read more of this. This... this puts a new spin on Anakin's murder of the Jedi Order. It's not a religious difference turned political - it's a freed slave getting personal.
Right What Is Wrong chapter 1 . 2/25/2018
Good gad. Poor Anakin.

Now if Lucas had put less emphasis on the love story, and more on THIS, his eventual snapping and falling to the Dark Side makes perfect sense. At least the Sith don't put on airs. And Palpatine actually gave him a CHOICE about joining.

Amazing oneshot.

Perfectly canon, too.
Inconclusive chapter 1 . 1/29/2018
Really nice observations on Anakin's life. It makes a lot of sense when his perceptions of then Jedi are parsed through his understanding of slavery. I'd be interested to read if you ever chose to make this into a longer story.
AnotherGuest chapter 1 . 1/2/2018
This is an interesting - and all to likely - take on what someone in Anakin's position might feel and think. Only I think that in the canon universe they DID take out the explosive (though I'm not sure if it was actually mentioned, I haven't watched the prequels as often as the original trilogy).
lynxreader chapter 1 . 12/31/2017
excellent. would fit well with the worldbuilding in Fialleril's stories; she's spent a lot of time and effort on Tatooine slave culture, and would likely love this story too.
sunsethill chapter 1 . 12/26/2017
The whole picture of the Jedi in the prequels changed so much of what people thought of the Jedi in the first three movies, and not for the better. Poor Anakin. You show how he almost can't help going Dark at this point. The Jedi sure didn't spend any time addressing his needs or concerns. I had not really thought before about how he really exchanged one master for another, because we all love Obi-Wan so much.
BetaBot chapter 1 . 12/25/2017
