In terms of the storyline and ending, I can definitely see what you mean when it is considered as completely redundant in the end. Just remember that this story is canon based and the events of this story is meant to slot into the events of what happened in the original storyline. If Tobi and Deidara were to remember what happened then what happened in canon would not make sense. I.e. Tobi remembering Rin during the war would not be back when they were young , and Tobi may not exhibit the same behaviour as he would during the events of the story if he remembered his time with Rin. Also, Rin is the only one of the trio to remember what happened, so the events still happened, just not in the minds of Tobi and Deidara.

As for the trilogy, I think I explained it quite poorly. It’s not necessarily a direct continuation, rather , it is like having the stories within the same universe. You won’t need to read each story to understand , they can be read separately. The sequel to this story is the prequel, This Day Tomorrow (which is currently being written). The 3rd story brings all characters from the first two together, but again, you don’t have to read all three to understand, they’re just links.

So previously I said I wasn't sure how I felt but I think I do now. I don't like the ending. I don't like how not only did Rin succumb to the inevitable, but the memories of Obito's time with her was erased, same with Deidara. The entire sequence of events was literally washed away, and at the end of the story we're at square negative one. The writing was solid, your vocabulary is great, and so was your use of grammar, but affliction, that ending. All that emotional buildup for no payback whatsoever except a bigger storyline that the audience didn't even start reading for.

Wow. What a ride. By the second to last chapter I thought that since Rin erased Obito's memories of her, the epilouge would be him reaching the Pure World as kid Obito after his defeat in the Fourth War, with Rin waiting for him, who remembers everything else. The ending was nice. But I guess I feel, disappointed? Not because it wasn't well written, but because I was silently hoping that Rin would find an out instead of succumbing to the inevitable. But oh well. Props to you. Their relationship was nicely played out from beginning to end. Not sure how I feel about it all being a set up for something bigger though, since that means their romance likely won't be revisited, and in the grand scheme of this universe it wasn't as significant a set of events as it felt. But I quite literally just finished so bear with me here.

Just to answer your comment, the side relationship between Tobi and Deidara is a way to showcase their personality. I.e. What would Deidara be like in a situation where he is involved in a romantic relationship? It's difficult to determine what is considered out of character for Deidara if you are focusing on his personal relationships (which was not shown in canon)- so essentially I had to try and foresee what he would be like based on his actual canon personality.

As with Tobi, his relationship with Deidara is to reinforce and showcase his volatile personality - that is, not necessarily him seeking anything in particular (seeing you posted this at chapter 46, I won't spoil the rest of the story for you). And for Rin, I had to extrapolate on her character to determine what she would be like if there was a rival, how she responds to this etc. The dynamics between Deidara, Rin and Tobi are quite complex and are intricately interlinked based on their past and also their interactions with each other as the story progresses. Had there been no romance between Deidara and Tobi, it would be difficult to see the complexity of Tobi's volatility/unpredictability, Rin's insecurities and Deidara's protective side towards Rin (even if he dislikes her).

This was so beautiful. Loved it! Obito and Rin deserved better both in canon and in this lovely story. And I’ll definitely check out your sequel when it’s ready!

Oh, my God. This is so heartbreaking.

My heart...is broken and I'm crying because of the way Obito found out about the pregnancy and it was such a lovely story to read. There aren't many Obito/Rin fanfictions out there, and you've done such an amazing job conveying their emotions and actions. Tho part of me wishes it would be a happier ending, another part of me is just pleased with the ending making sense to cannon and Obito's hatred of the world. Just gaaahhhhhh! I'll be waiting for the next part of the series.
