Reviews for Oak and Willow
sai19 chapter 16 . 9/7/2019
Such a well written, thought-provoking, and deep (for lack of better word) story is difficult to come across, and I am glad I found this. This pairing is one I haven't explored too much yet, but anytime I do come across them I wish to read more and understand them better. Thank you for writing this.
bluechicken chapter 12 . 4/15/2018

Girl's got it bad, and that ain't good.
attheturnofthetide chapter 17 . 1/18/2018
This story is just... Wow. What a ride. Celeborn and Galadriel are shown in such different lights from other stories I have read. I especially loved how headstrong Nerwen was in the beginning (and even at the end!) and how strong and reliable Celeborn is. Unfortunately we don't see a lot of him (or as much as we see his wife, anyway) so I was pretty happy to read from his perspective. I never gave much thought to Daeron in the past, but recently he's been crawling up my list of favourite characters. Alas, poor Daeron, doomed to love Luthien one-sidedly...

I loved the descriptions here, too. They paint very majestic and poignant pictures of the scenery and of the characters. Wonderful work!
Lorewen chapter 15 . 11/18/2017
"...the daily humiliation of being given orders in a foreign language." Ooh, that struck right into my life. I moved to Asia about a month ago, and my house helper speaks enough English to understand me most of the time, so I've been speaking to him almost entirely in English because it's easier - for me. But by now I really have learned enough of his language for the orders I usually need to give (provided I check the bilingual cookbook first to see what to call the meals I want). I just haven't put in the effort that it would take. Thank you, Celeborn, for pointing out the self-centered, arrogant thinking behind that lack of effort!

Wonderful story, by the way! I keep coming back to read it again, and it has completely altered my view of these cultures and events. I had no idea the Silmarillion was so Noldor-centric until I encountered your writing, but you are totally right about it. Thanks!
ksecc1 chapter 17 . 1/31/2017
A very well written romance. And also interesting to look at it from another point of view.
marduk-report chapter 17 . 1/11/2016
Your silm. and lotr stories are excellent.

This one was hard to read mind. But only because i know well the despair you have Celeborn feel in the middle-chapters, and have far, far less hope of seeing that despair turn to joy.
DefenestratedCountess chapter 17 . 11/1/2015

Mirlasse chapter 2 . 6/10/2015
That is one beautiful description of the Moon and Sun. Wow. Even more so than other stories I really felt as if I was there! Amazing!

Salome Maranya chapter 17 . 5/11/2014
Beautiful. Never have I been a keen fan of Celeborn and Galadriel, but this story has augmented my growing admiration for them. It made me weep and laugh and worry as they did although the outcome is already known.
Nyota's Heart chapter 16 . 1/19/2014
I come, sweet Marnie, from the Jedi Council Forums and on the strong recommendation of Mira_Jade, a breathtaking Tolkien specialist, as are you. :hugs: I have loved this entire delightful fic. And I thank you for inspiring one of my own. :rose: Your dialogue, characterizations, and scenes have been magnificent in breadth, emotion, and detail.
Freyalyn chapter 17 . 8/26/2013
Thank you for this story - it's taken me a while to read it, partly because I know what a difficult and uncomfortable period this is for the elves in Ennor. And I do like your unvarnished showing of the spoiled and arrogant Feanorians...

Thank you for writing this and sharing it with us. There just aren't enough Celeborn stories out there.
Nerdy Nell chapter 17 . 5/23/2013
I admire this portrayal of Celeborn, as well as his relationship with Galadriel. We get very little of him as a character in Tolkien's work - - Galadriel always seems to overshadow him. It's fitting that their personalities in this story should be somewhat opposite but complementary, while their characters are equally strong.

There is a nice motif of color imagery throughout the story, particularly of lightness and darkness. It never occurred to me that the Sindar might wear white and gray because it makes perfect sense in a starlit world. I did wonder why Galadriel always wears white (I can't remember whether Tolkien ever gives an explanation for it), but perhaps it is because of Celeborn and his cultural traditions.
