GASTON AND BELL WHAT?!
ayu8n chapter 15 . 1/28/2014
I am struggling to find the right words to describe this story. Amazing, fascinating, awe-inspiring just are not enough. This story is so incredibly original, entertaining, thought provoking and well written, if I could find the words I won't be able to say enough about it! I LOVED Belle here! She is so real and likable. She is someone I would love to sit and have a cup of joe with, while we talk over the world's issues. And they way you wrote Gaston... sigh. I could talk all day about all the things I liked about it (I now see why the reviews are so long, this is not merely a "cute" kind of story). Well done! I think I will give up writing and just read your stories.
MarieChristine81 chapter 15 . 12/21/2011
I've re-read this chapter several times, and have re-read the story even more, in the past 2 years. Every time I get to the end, I think it's brilliant! It's amazing! What a cliffhanger! And then I'm sad there's no more chapters. So I go back and re-read the story from the beginning. It's a brilliant and beautifully told story that has all the elements that detail the human condition from the world's most beloved film characters.

Anyway...

This chapter, and what I thought was the story's heart, was summed up in Xanatos' explanation of Anamasia's need for an ambassador: "...making the denizens of Animasia look as normal as possible. Getting as much exposure as possible to minimize our otherness. Getting Congress to realize our value and potential as allies and citizens, and in the process, getting government support to fund the New Kingdom. Because I can assure you that the Walt Disney Company under Nicholas Misner wants none of that..."

It struck a chord with me in that the story has many main characters, Ella, Belle, Elisa, Mickey, Minnie, Misner, but with each person, regardless if they're animated or true human, they all have the same needs and desires like everybody else. It's why they've endured as characters.

Belle, when you write her, I love how complex she is. Will she wear the necklace? I would love Ella to wear it and turn instantly old.

Speaking of Ella, I somehow suspected it was her that was sneaking to Misner.

The new door? I'm completely stumped.

But I loved it. The whole story. Reading it makes me happy.

This is by far one of the most fantastic, imaginative and well developed fanfictions I've ever read. If not THE most. :D

I just love the attention to and description of details and the interaction between characters (I must say Cate and Mufasa's is my favorite ).

Please keep up the great writing, I'm so looking forward to read more from you! ;D
StrongRex chapter 15 . 9/22/2010
Hey! I thought I would read this story after finishing it a year ago, and I thought it was just as amazing as it was when I first started.

I am curious though: Why would Lilo and Stitch be in Animasia if their movie didn't come out till 2002? What about Emperor Kuzco and Pacha, and Yzma and Kronk from The Emperor's New Groove? Are they in this too?

For your sequel (if you're planning on writing it), are you going to include newer Disney characters post-2000? Are you going to make what happened on 9-11-01 be a part of the plot? What about DreamWorks characters, like Shrek and Fiona and Donkey, the Central Park and Madagascar creatures, Po and the Furious Five, and Hiccup and Toothless? Since they are becoming more prominent now, is DreamWorks going to stand as the New Kingdom Donald revealed?

I do have more questions, but I don't want to throw anymore on you that I already have. I hope to hear back from you soon. Thanks for the story!
Hedwig1 chapter 15 . 6/29/2009
Oh my goodness. Where to begin? Structurally, this chapter is phenomenal. The way you've framed the beginning and the end of the chapter with two (seemingly) different Ellas adds to the intrigue of her character. You continually keep us guessing about her in recent chapters. My instinct is not to trust her, but I can't figure out why she would tell Mickey about Misner's plan if she weren't in some way redeemable. This plot has my head buzzing...I like buzzing!

And then of course, my two favorite heroines in the same chapter. Elisa's encounter with Xanatos made more sense to me than any lecture I ever sat through in AP Government. WOW. Xanatos's dialogue is evidence of why this story works so well. You've taken this awesome fantasy world and made old characters new again but you've fused them with an amazingly grounded sense of our reality. It's silly but I BELIEVE this is the approach Xanatos would take with the New Kingdom. Within the reality of "Kingdom Come", this scene is incredibly realistic.

Followed by, of course, a deliciously emotional whirlwind of information for Belle. The way she SEES Gaston for what (I believe) he truly is, confirmed by his reaction to the news that Puck is back. Boy is he hiding something. How much, I wonder, did Gaston know of the Night of Dissension before it happened? It certainly seems as though he has something to hide. And I wondered how long it would be before one of the extra-magical Animasians offered someone the chance to be really and truly human. What a dilemma for poor Belle! You sure are putting her through the ringer in this story. I'm loving it!

And as always, the image of a quiet, defeated Mickey Mouse standing on his porch works not only in the context of your story, but in the context of what is happening to the Mouse in our world too. It feels like he's gotten a little lost in recent years amidst the booming popularity of other characters and the fading appeal of a wholesome rodent and his girlfriend. Thank you for keeping him (and Minnie) alive for me :) Well done. Looking forward to future updates. In the meantime, happy writing.
BookRose chapter 15 . 4/21/2009
I bet I can guess what the new kingdom is. There's only one film that came out in 20. But speaking of new doors...what about doors that were added on by sequels? I mean, I don't fully support sequels since Disney came out with quite a few bombers in the past year. But even if the movies themselves sucked...where does that leave the characters who were created? I mean, they are creations, not incompetent movie directors or producers who messed them up. One movie that stands out that most people seem to hate more than love is Little Mermaid 2. I mean who hates or loves it is irrelevant. Don't those new characters deserve a home as much as the "real" Disney characters do? I know that Ariel would be overjoyed, because being able to have kids is all the parents of Animasia can think about, and Melody would fit that hole for her. The key could be that Animasia citizens can't have kids on their own, kids have to be created for them. And its not just the displaced children, its any and every character that would be homeless because of the fact that they shouldn't have been created but were.

I hope you are able to update again in the near future. Will it be a continuation on this fic or a separate story?

TrudiRose chapter 15 . 4/15/2009
Ooh, I'm VERY intrigued by the Ella situation! I honestly can't tell if she's genuinely freaked by the idea of overthrowing Mickey (if that goes too far even for her), or if she DOES totally agree with Misner and this is just a scheme of hers and Misner's, where she's cleverly trying to gain Mickey's trust and learn all his secrets in order to report back to Misner. And when Mickey thanks her, does he genuinely mean it, or is he just pretending to trust her? Very intriguing!

I have to confess that the whole Xanatos/Goliath thing confuses me - I'm not really following that at all - but then again, I didn't get much sleep last night, so maybe I need to re-read all that when I'm more awake! It's also hard because I don't know those characters, so I can't picture them and it's harder for me to be interested in them. (But that's my problem, not yours.)

Although Belle certainly would be fascinated by the idea of becoming human, I can't really see her going through with it, because Beast would still be Animasian. She might toy with the idea and be tempted, but I don't see her ultimately giving up everyone and everything she's ever known, even though she does want freedom.

I love the ups and downs of her and Gaston - their scenes together are always great, especially the way he's always saying the wrong thing and annoying her. I also like her realizing, though, that when a situation calls for action and decisiveness, he's a good person to have around because that's his strength. Belle's intelligence, caution and imagination means she can weigh all the possibilities, but that very fact can make her paralyzed with indecision, because she's so aware of how complicated the situation is and how dangerous a wrong move might be. Whereas Gaston won't sit around analyzing it - he'll just go and DO (although he might very well do the wrong thing!)

I have a little suggestion, take it or leave it: when you have two people talking, and there are a lot of lines of dialogue in a row (such as the Misner/Ella scene and the Belle/Gaston scene), I think it would be good to put in some action or description of their tone, or at least some attributions (i.e. "she paced the room," or "she snapped in annoyance" or whatever). I think too many lines of dialogue in a row needs something to break it up a little (plus, when there are too many lines of dialogue in a row without attribution, I sometimes find myself having to go back and count to figure out who's saying what).

The end of Book One - what does that mean? Will the continuation still be posted as part of this, or will it be a separate story?
Psychodahlia chapter 15 . 4/12/2009
I wish you wouldn't try and end this, it's the most original fic in the Disney section.

My favorite part was how sympathetic you made Puck. And how awesome Xanatos is. Please continue, you have fans.

SilverInkblot chapter 15 . 4/10/2009
. . . Damn.

This story really makes me wish I'd watched Gargoyles back in the day. I could just kick myself now.

I adore this story. It's amazing. There's really nothing else to say for it. I can't wait to read how true Ella's intentions really are, if Xanatos does in fact intend to help our heroes (from what I understand of the character, he was one badass villian), how Puck plans to redeem himself, and how long it will be before Belle dumps Gaston for the Beast, along with how that necklace will change things (if it really does what Puck says it does).

There are a handful of stories on FFN that I sincerely believe are worthy of publication. This is one of those stories. And I really can't think up a better compliment than that. Thanks for sharing this gem of a fanfiction.
Anna Marie Raven chapter 15 . 4/10/2009
The end of Book 1? This was a really exciting chapter; so many relevations, so much exposition, and so much to work with!

I can't wait for the next Book, and let me just say the following:

- I don't trust Ella.

- I'm all a-tingle in anticipation of when that necklace will come back into play.

- I think I know what Belle saw in Gaston's eyes...

I'm looking forward to the day I get the next alert for one of your stories!
tripleT.Vo chapter 1 . 4/9/2009
It was such a treat to see this alert in my inbox this morning, I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled I was to begin reading.

As usual, your latest chapter did not disappoint in the slightest - in fact, it exceeded expectations completely. The scene between Misner and Ella completely shocked me (I had no idea it was coming at all), but I love how you got these two "villains" of the story to unite together, after a fashion... and I feel tempted to go back and reread the entire story again so that I can pick up on any clues that hinted at this happening, but that I just missed completely.

I could empathize with Elisa's frustration with Xanatos, especially when he had a reply for everything she believed in, deterring her from her true purpose. Xanatos is a pretty intriguing character, very 'in it for himself', and it was interesting to see how he convinced Elisa, who is very rule-abiding and whatnot, to reconsider things from his side of the table. So that was a very cool scene.

But it's really the Belle plotline that keeps leading me back to this story (I can't help it, BatB is my all-time favorite Disney movie, after all). I felt slightly sympathetic for Gaston at the beginning there, because it really is sweet that he's trying to do everything he can to make Belle happy... but then the Beast supporter in me stops me from feeling too bad for Gaston. ;) And Puck hit it right on the nail, why I was so depressed that Beast and Belle aren't together (only at the moment, I hope!): "But you two…you had spitfire. You had something real." There's a certain connection between Beast and Belle, and you really do it justice here. Puck's necklace made me wonder where you're going with that particular plot device... To be honest, I doubt that Belle would actually use it (though I could be wrong, of course). But my mind went straight to another character who, I think, would be more likely to use it if she found out about its existence. I'll ask you privately about that in a PM later, since I don't want to say it here for other reviewers to see. :)

Finally, the Mickey-Minnie-Ella scene. I love your portrayal of Minnie; it's very true to her character, but more reserved and unassuming, which would make sense if she weren't entertaining other people. But while I love Mickey, I was a little... apprehensive about how easily he accepted Ella's explanation (to be honest, I really reacted like Minnie when Mickey invited Ella to go with them to the New Kingdom meeting). Mickey's a good guy who believes the best in everyone, but the first scene you had in this chapter makes it hard for me to believe that Ella is really on the side of the Animasians. I don't trust her motives at all, really, after seeing how vindictive she can be. : So I'm looking forward to seeing which side Ella's really on.

And what a climax! A new kingdom? I was wondering how kingdoms were created before - would a new kingdom be created each time Disney released a new movie? So going by that hypothesis, maybe WALL-E and EVE will join the cast? (I have no idea, I'm just throwing out the first random thing that came to my mind, LOL). But I suppose I'll just have to wait until your next update, which is already being eagerly anticipated by this reviewer. :) (By the way, I think it's pretty cool that you had Belle's scene with Puck written out from such a long time ago... it takes quite a bit of planning to make it work in cohesively, but you did it.) Anyway, this is getting pretty long... so again, I'm looking for "Kingdom Come, Part Two", and can only hope that the update will come sooner than later. ;)
