The day of reckoning, when their carnival catches up, will happen soon. But it is very good for them to spend time thinking (and feeling!) what they want rather than mostly reacting to their parents. Launching into the unknown even when both of them are 18 would be scary at best. As always, you provide a vivid sense of place and people.
