Reviews for First Steps
DSPallas chapter 12 . 8/8/2019
Another really good reading. To be in the head of a Jane trying to find a new balance, between his revengeful goal and a job that culd save him from insanity… Very interesting and successful chapter.

Hm. I hadn't given much thought to the preliminaries to which Jane would have been subjected as a permanent CBI consultant. His thoughts/reactions are perfectly in character - a pleasure to imagine his days.

The only downside to this story is the "Complete." Hope you'll soon be scratching that creative itch by writing more TM.

The story as a whole plausibly takes us right to Red Dawn and the series. Thank you.

The opening puns lend a nice balance to the remainder, grim purpose leavened by newly discovered pleasure and purpose. Convincing, nicely written, and beautiful framing for his entire future/the entire show. Thanks.

It would be so difficult - to adjust to this new life of which Patrick has found himself a part. Part. That says an awful lot doesn’t it. He is still playing different parts in this new life depending on what people around him need. But also he’s a small cog, a part, in the network of lives around him. I really do like your story.

You have captured the essence of a deconstructed Patrick Jane. It was fascinating to watch him take off his “armor”. I’d love to hear more of Aunt Lily. Just picturing him sewing sequins at the age of ten is fantastic. Please forgive the lateness of this review. I see you have already posted the next chapter!
Guest chapter 11 . 7/21/2019
Delighted you are continuing with this beautifully written story. Always took pleasure in watching Jane finding 'joy in the little things'. Hope his suit will be OK.
LouiseKurylo chapter 11 . 7/21/2019
Credible backstory to the Red Dawn events.

I imagined Jane to be more broken at that point. I imagined him more stumbling on an opportunity to change the odds in his favor of his getting access to the RJ files than intentional, planned manipulation, but yours is a believable sequence as well. Your and my notions work since Lisbon was unyielding to his initial overtures about learning about their progress on RJ.

Laundering fine suit(s?) in a washing machine might work if it was cold water and a mild detergent. (Hot water or a dryer would ruin them. The lining probably would shrink to a different extent than the outside, making the suit a puckered mess.) Many down-scale motels have irons in the room or available for the asking, so he could iron his shirt and the suit(s) when they were merely damp. Piece by piece put in place.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for this extra chapter.

I liked Jane musing on the kindness of strangers. I liked him imagining stripping off his jacket, vest and crisp white shirt as if it were his false persona, especially while he was wearing only a blue and white striped more casual grubby shirt. Also that he was being at least half honest when he first met Lisbon.
LouiseKurylo chapter 10 . 7/20/2019
Nicely crafted. Deconstructing by means of shedding his show clothes was very effective, and also harks to his later buttoned-up, three-piece armor of CBI clothing. The explicit metaphor for the many and constant masks works wonderfully well. Appreciate the intrusion of normal in the personage of Bob and his wife. Perhaps that is just Jane's recognition of what was always there (the unexceptional kindness of strangers), noticed now that he's less absorbed with hiding and manipulation, at least in ordinary circumstances. Thank you.

Is this story complete? It does not say, so I've been hoping for one more chapter(?)
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it (and the other three) and look forward to more from you sometime soon.

I am enjoying how Jane is learning and adapting to be his "new" self. Looking forward to more!
