Reviews for The Eagle and the Swan
Darkover chapter 1 . 12/29/2010
Dear Altariel: I enjoyed reading these stories. There aren't enough good Boromir-Faramir fics around. Fortune does seem to smile on some people, and Boromir was one of them. And it was good to see how Faramir was intellectually curious even as a child. Thank you for writing and posting these fics. Sincerely, Darkover
LadyoftheShield chapter 1 . 8/1/2010
Excellent job! I liked Boromir insisting that it was a sword.
Emily chapter 1 . 1/27/2010
Both very nice. We didn't ever figure out where Boromir went, but I don't think it really matters, and indeed, I had forgotten it by the time I ended the story.

"I shall be prince of a pond of puzzled fish." : )

The title of your second story was very clever. I almost didn't catch it. And then there's the sly reference to Narsil. Wow. That's REALLY good.

And everyone was in character. Of course, we didn't get anything more than references to Adrahil in LotR, but he sounds good, too, like a grandfather would.
duj chapter 1 . 6/6/2009
How good it is and how pleasant for brothers to dwell in peace...
Rhyselle chapter 1 . 11/24/2006
Oh! Astronomy! I loved searching for constellations when I lived far enough out in the country to actually see more than just a few stars in the heavens.

Poor Faramir. I just wanted to hug him when he told his grandfather that Boromir hadn't told him where he was going.

And just where WAS Boromir that day? *grin* May I hope that there is a tale I have not read yet in which you tell us?

I enjoyed the contrast between the two boys and I can just see Boromir pretending to be dense about seeing the Eagle in the stars! LOL!

You have a deft touch with writing Faramir at any age and I'm glad to see you've also got it with Boromir.
Gypsie Rose chapter 1 . 3/23/2006
I can't believe I never reviewed this one! I like the interconnected stories very much, particularly the characterization of young Boromir. I can certainly see him as the cocky little "golden boy" here.

Mango13 chapter 1 . 3/8/2004
How you sketched out Boromir's and Faramir's childhoods was so lovely. To hear that everything in life goes so well for Boromir is true... and I liked that you portrayed him as a stubborn unimaginative little boy :). Faramir as a child is very much the Faramir I know, dreamy, idealistic and poetic. Sigh. What a nice story. Even though this is lighter than the other stories I've read of yours, you still made it a point to mention about Faramir's position within the family (that is, not as loved or believed in and always second best...). It was sad, but it made the story carry more weight. I loved their grandfather. Sweet old man. Would Faramir be happier if he lived and ruled in Dol Amroth than in Gondor?
wellduh chapter 1 . 1/19/2004
Ah. Thorongil. Never really thought about it.
Window Girl chapter 1 . 12/1/2003
Aww, Boromir and Faramir are so CUTE. Great story.

Doranwen chapter 1 . 9/8/2003
‘The fish in that pond,’ he finally said, as a third shell arced its way towards its fate, ‘Do not come from the sea. If you fill their home with shells, they will think that they are lost. I shall be prince of a pond of puzzled fish.’

*laughs* I love it! It's the best bit of dry humor I've seen in a long time! I have to share this one with my friends!

This one pushes you onto my Favorite Authors list, finally. Your Tolkienesque style is superbly mastered, and your characterization as accurate as it is unique (if you catch my drift). (Shamefully, the only reason I didn't put you on before was because it didn't quite fit my personal views of certain characters, not because your writing isn't good. I lean towards ReginaL's portrayal of Éowyn.)

Very well done-keep it up. Try writing more from Éowyn's POV, or are you truly only a Faramir writer?
vanderwoodsen chapter 1 . 7/10/2003
This was brilliant, I loved how Boromir was much more hasty and Faramir was more dreamy and innocent - - just like they are when they are adults. HA is an excellent fic site, but they rejected me when I tried to join _
minx chapter 1 . 5/26/2003
Lovely story, beautifully written. Thanks for a wonderful read.
