That was beautiful and nearly perfect. I think they're could've been more emphasis placed on Mireille and Kirika's long silences and communication with just their eyes and expressions, but their personalities were pretty spot on.

I especially like the whole contrast of Kirika wanting to completely leave their life behind, while Mireille is content with being an assassin of some sort. Because even though Kirika has an immense"darkness" inside of her, she wishes to be rid of it. She harbors a great deal of guilt over her actions. On the other hand, Mireille feel very little guilt for what she has done, and recognizes killing is part of who she is—she cannot escape it. She has a darkness inside her that she chose. It may not be as malevolent as Kirika's, she almost welcomes it, while Kirika resents hers and wishes to be rid of it.

So it makes sense that Mireille would want them to somewhat accept the name of Noir. Whether they want it or not, Noir is a part of them. They /are/ Noir. So I think it's a brilliant idea to have them take the name, and give it a new meaning. It's still death, but it passes over the just or something like that. I don't think they could ever reach "the light"—they are too deep in sin—but I recon they could make the world a somewhat better place.

So again, a wonderful story. I just wish I had gotten into this fandom many years ago. I'm about a decade late to the party it seems. I have no one to talk to about how I think that whatever happened at the Manor with Altena had slightly supernatural hints in it. I was thinking about maybe Kirika and Mireille got some sort of super powers from it, but having thought about it, I think something that is legitimately possible and would fit the whole "Noir is two people" thing is them being connected in spirit or some such thing. Telepathically linked to be more straightforward and less artsy. They already displayed an incredible ability to understand one another just through eye contact and to work together extremely effectively, so I think the idea of whatever the Noir ritual thing was giving them some sort of link would be cool. To just know what the other is thinking and doing and to almost act as one person with two bodies. Very romantic too, eh?

But I've gotten off track. It's just sad to not be able to speak with anyone about this incredible show! Anyways, this story was beautiful, and I agree with what someone said on some forum about how it feels almost like a canonical continuation. Well done, and thank you. Sorry I'm 14 years late.

Awesome! I want more...just like everyone else. Excellent prose and character insight. After a decade of mind control by the Soldats 'Noir' is more of a state of mind for K and M than just an underworld organization. There is hope for our girls considering that the Soldats failed in every attempt to further indoctrinate them as adults and no Soldat would want those two grim reapers at their door. Perhaps there is a developing storyline on the horizon...I hope so.

Very sweet fanfic. Nicely written - good believable interactions between Mireille & Kirika. Also some intriguing answers given to tying up the series a little.

Have you considered writing a sequel? It would be cool to see the ideas proposed here developed.

One thing that I didn't like though was the final line...you can't laugh at bad dreams, you're not conscious enough to try.
