cool! I enjoy reading this so much! Very faithful to the original vision of Gary Gygax, the founder of DND! god bless!
Model Builder chapter 17 . 6/6/2010
I think that, if Marvel Productions ever wanted to make a live-action movie based on the "Dungeons and Dragons" cartoon series, they need look no further for a story than WhiteVeils' "Breaking the Ties that Bind."

This story is as well-researched as it is written. Not only does the author seem to know "D&D" like the back of her hand, she also seems well-versed in ancient history. And it is theses references, (especially in her battle scenes,) that add realism to her description of the medieval world of The Realm.

Apart from a few spelling errors (we all make them; but to the engrossed reader, they are like potholes on an otherwise smooth road,) the story flows smoothly and logically, even with all the small references to the various characters, places and objects that may have appeared only once in the "D&D" series. (I KNEW the "Starfire" fighter jet from "The Time Lost" HAD to be a Lockheed-Martin product . . . .)

Finally, the author does a very good job filling in "missing" back story in a very plausible way. (I especially enjoyed the part about why Dungeonmaster is called "Dungeonmaster.")

In short, if you are a fan of the old "Dungeons and Dragons" cartoon series, "Breaking the Ties that Bind" is a very satisfying way to spend a quiet Sunday.

A breathtaking story with a thoughtful, yet happy, ending. :)

I must say that at times I wondered if you were really going to pull this off the way you did- but you amazed me and brought all the disparate elements together in the end. This story truly exists in the Realm. Thanks for sharing. I just hope you'll come back and write something else some day!
Texcatlipoka chapter 16 . 3/30/2010
Still loving this story. It's just a shame there's so little left to go! Oh yeah, and I couldn't help feeling it would have been classic if DM had just given them one last riddle as he walked away. Real crafty like...
Texcatlipoka chapter 10 . 3/28/2010
This story really is amazing. I love it. It has a genuine sense of threat and realism, and I honestly have no idea what's going to happen or who's going to die. I'm hooked. You must write more.
Texcatlipoka chapter 7 . 3/28/2010
I LOVE this fic! It's not often I find one that's genuinely addictive. A few really minor probs but overall this is just great. Maybe if you'd been writing the show it wouldn't have stopped at Season three
Texcatlipoka chapter 2 . 3/27/2010
Just showed up (late as ever) and read the first chapter and I love it! Hooray! Shame Bobby is... kinda dead... he's my favourite character. No team in my opinion is complete without a slightly dim one who's always attacking and getting in trouble.

Anyway I hope DM hasn't disappeared from the story already. He's being made out to be the enemy so far. Hopefully there's more to it than that.

Congrats!

What an interesting story you got here.

And love how you put all the characters they met in the series.
D.B. Cooper chapter 18 . 12/21/2009
Well, that was definitely a good ending to the Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon. In the end, the Young Ones manage to defeat Venger and become legends of the Realm. I especially enjoyed them having constellations named in their honor. The whole subplot with the parents and how they where reunited (however briefly) with their kids was awesome. It was nice that Sheila got to see Bobby one more time too. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I am sorry to see it end.
D.B. Cooper chapter 1 . 12/21/2009
This is the beginning of a really good story. Bobby dies and returns to Earth, then the rest of the gang finally rejects Dungeon Master. Too cool!
Lost Spook chapter 1 . 12/11/2009
That's a really intriguing beginning. (And I am rather relieved that Bobby isn't dead so soon in!)

I particularly liked the way you wrote from Dungeon Master's POV. All the characterisation was great though, and going into more depth. I'm feeling rather pleased at the length instead (my usual) totally daunted!
Shadow-Nightfall chapter 18 . 12/9/2009
Awesome story! I've been following this for a while and the ending doesn't disappoint!

As a silly side note though, I can almost imagine Bahamut (human) wearing one of those "Lawful Good doesn't mean Lawful Nice" t-shirts :)
Comet Moon chapter 1 . 12/2/2009

Just found it and read it though

D.B. Cooper chapter 17 . 11/13/2009
Venger, The Young Ones, and Dungeon Master in the final battle of the Realm! How cool is that? I mean, I could go on about how well-written Breaking the Ties that Bind is. But that wouldn't do it justice by a fifth. It's just one exciting story!
Polgara of Erat chapter 16 . 10/15/2009
Getting ready for the big fight... I like how you have the story of the parents running parallel to the story of the young ones...
