Reviews for Games of skill and chance
Kakasasu1Fan chapter 12 . 2/5/2019
Aaah I loved this fic, it was adorable how Severus got so attached to those kids (how could he not, they are such good kids)
And I really liked how you made Severus and Remus interact, I've recently found them to be really interesting characters to see as a couple/friends in fanfics, as they have contrasting but compatible personalities in my opinion (**)

But what I liked the most about this fic was how you adressed the house system. I love the HP universe and I've got somewhat of a love/hate opinion on the houses... on one hand, I think it was a very original idea from JKR, and it's cool thinking about which house you'd be sorted in, I think everyone likes the feeling of being part of a group of similar people... but, on the other hand, I totally agree with Snape's opinion, that system is stupid and cruel. It makes it very difficult to become good friends with students fron other houses, and the points system further encourages rivalry between the houses. If you're sorted into Slytherin everyone will automatically think you're evil, if you're a Gryffindor then you're noble and brave, if you're a Ravenclaw you're very intelligent and if you're a Hufflepuff then you're a clueless and clumsy person... but everyone's got their own personality, and part of that personality developes as you go through your school years, so it's simply stupid to sort 11 years old kids for what an old hat thinks... well, that's it, sorry for the long rant, but I really liked how you added that into the story ;)
Prince Pondincherry chapter 11 . 7/9/2017
I like the idea that really good potions experts come out of Hogwarts. Of course, I have to pair that with everyone else who comes out of Hogwarts sucking at potions since they don't get the instruction they need, but Snape does seem willing to teach those students who are actually talented already.
Prince Pondincherry chapter 5 . 7/9/2017
Wait wait wait, Sorry! isn't obscure at all! I've got multiple editions of it! Maybe it's more popular now in Southern California than it was whenever and wherever you wrote this.
cimmer chapter 12 . 1/31/2016
That was a delightful story. I like stories that have different houses getting together to do kid stuff. What's the point of splitting everyone up all the time and then expecting unity I say. lol I also very much liked Snape's bear and Snape and Lupin's relationship. Thank you.
strollinstranger chapter 8 . 5/23/2015
i just reread the entire fic after a few years. i enjoyed it immensely on the second go as well. im specifically reviewing this chapter because i only ever found one typo which was in this chapter. presumably snape did not lie on a soda but a sofa albeit the images popping up from the former are rather entertaining. :)

i would be very interested in the sequel you mentioned in your last a/n albeit im not sure there will ever be one after all these years. struggling with trauma myself i find it somewhat hard to believe how easy snape and lupin manage to connect with each other rather than being very hostile and ready for a fight. also somehow everyone is helpful and considerate which sadly does not overlap with my personal experiences but all the better to read about a more perfect world,
BlueWater5 chapter 12 . 3/31/2015
Great story!
AlaeaMori chapter 12 . 5/3/2014
Goodness that was BRILLIANT! and yes I did have to capitalise that! I'm totally in love with this fic., and even though it was just glimpses, I'm really quite curious about those 1st and 2nd year students of the Games Club. Would love to read their reaction when they discover the games he left for them. Will raise your archive for more fics. now.
great work - i know i should comment on styling or flow and whatnot but a bit too blown away by the originality and simple pleasure of this read.
thank you and congrats for a job well done

Nice human Snape.
laraquick chapter 12 . 8/19/2012
I've had this story saved on my hard drive for ages and finally got a chance to read it. I was so happy to read a post-Hogwarts story in which Severus got a happy ending. Friendship with Lupin, the respect of his colleagues and a chance for the freedom to do a job that he'd be perfect for.

I would love to read a continuation of this story if you ever return to the HP fandom. Seeing how Severus deals with his new colleagues, living in a new country as a man without a past (sort of) hanging over him, seeing what Hermione does in this new world. Perhaps someone could work on a scar removing potion. And I'd like to see how Lupin and Snape's relationship continues and develops.

I'd really like to see move of Nash as well. :)

Many thanks from someone who's come late to enjoying your writing in this fandom.
VioTanequil chapter 12 . 8/16/2012
Wonderful, well-crafted read. It's nice seeing Snape settle down a little after the war.
Oranyi chapter 12 . 4/20/2012
I loved your story! It was so heart-warming, believable and in character. It is one of the best characterizations of Snape- not a hateful monster, not a pleasant, lovable grandfather either- I've read. This story left me with a strange feeling of yearning, of finally being able to look for and fulfill one's desire.
Mirrorfaced chapter 1 . 3/5/2012
Found via painless-j reclist and she was totally entirely gloriously right. If ever there was a way to defrost Mister Severus Snape, it would be this. It was subtle, gradual, and totally relate-able. Snape lacked his infamous nastiness but doesn't that make sense in this context? The war is over and all the sources of his woe (Voldemort, Dumbledore, James & Co., Harry & Co.) are gone. I would assume that he has no real reason to stay bitter besides simply being used to such behavior and not knowing what else to do with himself. I'm not saying he would suddenly turn nice and sit-around-the-fire-singing-songs, but you've captured that middle path. It's a good story.
Librasmile chapter 12 . 8/20/2011
Golly, i resisted this story for so long. I had heard about it again and again but it just felt like the topic was so kitschy.

I was so wrong.

I'm very glad I read it. I teared up when Severus left. But I'm glad for him. And yes I'd like to read a sequel.
Ren Testsu chapter 12 . 8/8/2011
This wasn't half bad, however, your grammar needs work and it was a little hard to tell were the story was headed at times.
shakespeare's sister chapter 12 . 7/4/2011
Hey, I've definitely read this fic before and hopefully reviewed it (unless I was being my normal lazy/tongue-tied self) but just in case I haven't, I wanted to say how much I loved it and to convey my sincerest thanks to you for writing it!
